Small MPC5200 Boards, Benchmark
« on: December 01, 2005, 11:18:08 AM »
There are 2 new small boards based on Freescale MPC5200 System On Chip:

1. ACK Control's The PowerVixxen LT for computer inside large keyboard case.

Specifications:
MPC 5200 SOC with PowerPC 603e core @ 400-466MHz
512Mb Ram onboard the card
ATA/IDE Interface
100 Mbit Ethernet
USB 1.1
AC97 audio CODEC
Graphics Mini PCI-slot
Works in a standard A1200 desktop
Accessories that will replace the A1200-motherboard for "stand alone" functionality.

This board will support Linux OS and AmigaOS 4.

2. Genesi's 4U2 Sub Laptop board:

Genesi is please to announce the development of the 4U2 sub-laptop based on the EFIKA 5K2 reference design and the Freescale MPC5200B. The 4U2 will be produced in Asia and be available in Q2 2006. The 4U2 board can be deployed in a variety of configurations and uses and includes both mobile and WIFI wireless capability. Efika 5K2 specification:

Freescale MPC5200B PowerPC SoC up to 466MHz
128MB DDR RAM (configurable from 32MB to 512MB)
44-pin IDE connector
10/100Mbit/s Ethernet
2x USB ports
1x RS232 Serial port
Stereo Audio out, Microphone and Line-input
PCI/AGP riser slot

This board will support Linux OS and MorphOS.

Based on Interpolation and SpecInt95,SpecFP95 Table, the PowerPC 603e 466 MHz Core benchmark result:

http://www.macinfo.de/bench/specmark.html

PowerPC 603e / 233 MHz /66 MHz bus:
SpecInt95:  6.9
SpecFP95:   4.1

Interpolation:
PowerPC 603e / 466 MHz:
SpecInt95: 13.8
SpecFP95:   8.2

This result is comparable to Intel Pentium II/350 MHz.

Intel Pentium II 350 MHz / 100 MHz bus:
SpecInt95: 13.9
SpecFP95:  10.2

Is this comparison valid/correct?

Not speaking about the benchmark itself but you shouldn't
compare the 4U2 to the PowerVixxen. The 4U2 is a complete
sub notebook not just a motherboard. You can
compare EFIKA with the PowerVixxen though.

Plus the other OS the Pegasos/HAL supports (like for example
µnOS).

No I don’t think it’s 100% correct.
The core off the MPC 5200 I based off the 603 but they must have update and tweak the core a little I think.
Fore example the Intel Pentium M, is a Pentium3 with SSE2, and some other tweaks..
