Poll: How much would you pay for a WarpEngine 040/40 ...:)

In good condition, except a broken bit on the scsi2 connector´s plastic, but that's nothing...

Goal would be to upgrade to the next level (PPC :-o  ). I started with a bare commodore 3640 board..
The WarpEngine is an awesome board much faster than the stock 3640 and with a fast scsi2 controler onboard...

I'll multiply your offerings by 3 to estimate what I'd get in eBay :roll:

People on ebay are ID10Ts I swear.  I bought a few Cyberstorms on ebay for $300-400 over the yars but a Warp 4040 sells for close to that too.  Hello?

Agreed. Some "idiots" on eBay are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a simple A3000T manual. :-P

Gentlemen, idiots is a bit harsh, don't you think?  When one is dealing from a position of retro hardware strength, as both of you are so oft to remind us, turn not an angry eye at the returning Amiga fan's transgressions in moments of intoxication on eBay, he who is older now and more flush in the wallet department than in those heady days of his floppy-only A500.

Yeah I have spent some $$ on ebay don't even start.  It use to be cheap on there but now all the ID10T error codes are coming out of the wood work!  My point was that for ~$50 more or so you can get a 060 card vs a 040 Warp card.  But it is a supply/demand issue and people are not willing to wait until a 060 card show up so they have bidding wars.  The thing that gets me is if I DO NOT snipe a auction I ALWAYS have to over pay up the you know what just to win.  Why is that?

Agreed, eBay should have a policy about sniping.  It has probably happened to everyone who does any time on eBay.  Last minute bidding frenzy by people who clearly have made their bidding intentions known is one thing, but sniping by a hidden bidder jumping in at the last second with an incredibly high bid just to secure the item....  That's what makes idiot come to mind.

back to topic: if I wanted a Warpengine, seeing as how it is the best thing short of a 68060 and maybe better if the rival 060 card has no dma scsi, a reasonable price would be maybe US$160-200..imho

Well then I am the biggest fricken ID10T on ebay!!! Woot!   I snipe EVERY SINGLE f-ing TIME as I will not over pay for stuff unless I have to.  And thats never unless you are buying me a present.  Case in point:  Place TWO "War of the Worlds" DVD's on ebay.  1 at 1 cent and the other with $13.99 Buy it now and watch what will happen.  The 1 cent one will most likely end at or OVER what it costs at the store!!  And we all know the other one will end sooner even though it Cheaper to pay for TAX than shipping and handling.

Anyway enough ranting on ebay, if it wasn't there it would be hard for us to collect stuff too right?  So it is a toss up I guess.  Back to OP concern, the Warp 4040 is a good card and does hold it's value that is for sure.  Too bad there wasn't a WE 4060!

I just bought a WE 4028 from Software Hut for $135.00. Sadly it didn't work and Joe couldn't fix it, so he refunded the money.

I was going to upgrade it to a 4040 :-(.

I don't know what all the fuss is about.  It is simple supply and demand economics.  The supplies of working Amiga hardware that is no longer being produced is shrinking while the demand varies up and down, but has seemed to increase over the past couple of years due to increased interest in retro machines. This has pushed the value of these somewhat rare items up to levels that seem unreasonable by some of us long time Amiga users that remember the cheap days on eBay or elsewhere of a few years ago.  I am an Amiga collector, not just an Amiga user, and as such have from time to time paid what may be considered a high price for an item that I really want to complete part of my collection.  There are a few others out there like me and then there are new users to the Amiga world that don't know any better and have the cash to burn, so they bid items up to crazy amounts.  Why get upset about it, the high prices only make what you have worth more as well.  Don't worry, be happy  :-D

I still don't like bid sniping, just announce your intentions to do battle at the end by placing an early bid. Otherwise, someday you'll meet your sniping match and end up paying a really ridiculous amount for something.

About the WE: I have seen ads in old Amiga mags where several UK vendors were selling the Macrosystem card with a 68060, both A4000 (Warpengine) and A1200 versions.  The advertised names of these cards were something like Magnum and Falcon...and no these weren't Phase 5 or Apollo cards afaik.  Amiga Format reviewed the Falcon 040 for A1200 and if you looked at the card, I believe there was provision for an 060 on it.  What I don't know is if Macrosystem ever released these before bowing out of the Amiga market.  They did make the 68060 Draco clone, so it is possible.  Of course, these may have just been vapourware a la A/Box or A5000 or similar.

About six months ago, I purchased a 4028 on eBay for $185.  Another $30 later with a crystal and processor swap, it became a 4040.

Best $215 I spent for my A3000, but still wishing at some point to get a 68060 working.
