XM1541 Problem help?
« on: November 29, 2005, 07:49:03 AM »
Hi folks,

I constructed a XM1541 cable and I'll be dogged if I can get it to work. I have tried Star Commander and CBM4WIN under XP (on a Duron 950) and Star Commander under DOS on an old PS/2 486.

On the Duron:
Under Star Commander the drive light in constantly on.
Under CBM4WIN "instcbm --check" says no error, but "cbmctrl status 8" returns "99, driver error,00,00" & "AUnused = 0, ErrorCode = 2: The system cannot find the file specified. status." Also the command "cbmctrl reset" apparently works as the drive activity light comes on momentarily and goes out. (The only way to stop it after useing Star Commander.

On the 486:
Under Star Commander. No drive light at all.

I am stumped here and I desparatly want to get a few images to my very real C128D. Can anyone help?

By the way... The drive is a 1571 configured to device 8. And yes I've been through the readme files so many times I starting to loose my hair. :-(

Well I know, but I know a few folks here. And a number of us still play with 8-bits as well. So I thought I'd give it a shot.

@c64_d0c

Hey thanks man! What do you know there is a nice SC FAQ there I haven't tried yet!

Thanks again I'm giving it another go tonight.

I hadn't been to lemon64 in a long time and the time I stopped by I guess I didn't look around enough.

You rock. Laters :-)

Pffff, 'tis long ago when I juggled with that.
You need to check if you have the lpt settings correctly in your PC Bios (well, the 486's bios), iirc, or something with spp, epp or ecp, and then the spp option must be selected.

I know it was a little while back, but did you get this to work?  I found your post while checking to see if I could hook up a 1571 drive to an A3000.  My intention is to use an Apple iie emulator to read a number of his 5.25 disks files and transfer them to the a3000 hard drive.  I would then be able to view the many, many documents his wife typed in over the years and put them into a usable format or print for him.

Thanks,
Larr
