CD-ROM setup question with A2000 and G-Force 030 Combo card
« on: November 17, 2005, 07:15:48 PM »
Hi all,

Hoping to get some guidance on the following setup:

A2000, 6.2 mobo
2065 Ethernet card (irrelevant to this question)
G-Force 030 Combo w/4Mb RAM, SCSI HD and CD-ROM connected
Video Toaster

For O/S software, I have 3.1 installer disks, the 3.5 OS update CD-ROM and a few older utilities that purport to provide CD-ROM support.

Just got the video toaster and before I install it, I want to get the CD-ROM working.  The HD has been working for quite a while but I can't figure out how to get any SCSI CD-ROM drives to be recognized, and I have tried several. The software I am using isn't working. :-(

I am very well acquainted with SCSI termination issues, and I can assure everyone that this is NOT the problem.

I guess I'd like to know how have others got their CD-ROMs to work with this setup. It seems that OS 3.1 has no CD-ROM support? If so...how to get to 3.5 with no CD-ROM?

Thanks for any guidance!

You have to specify gvpscsi.device and the correct scsi ID number for any cdrom driver software to find the drive.  Try AmiCDFS (it's free and works great).

If you have the complete Workbench 3.1 set installed, then copy the CD0 and CD0.info files found in SYS:Storage/DOSDrivers to SYS:Devs/DOSDrivers. Edit the CD0 file to use gvpscsi.device as device driver and set the unit number to the one on the CD drive. Now write Mount CD0: and everything should be ready to go.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know that I got this working. I don't know what was wrong the first time; I suppose the reinstall of a fresh 3.1 install cured many ills. Regardless, I am now running my system as I had hoped, with the CD-ROM, Ethernet card and so on all working.

I am now working on getting some replacement media for my Video Toaster board since the set I have has one bad disk and  is missing one as well. :-(

Anyway, everything works--all I need now is more RAM, my Toaster software and maybe a nice scandoubler.

Thanks for the help!
