Anyone replaced the A3000 battery?

I've got Lierbags A3000 and it definitely needs a new battery. I seems pretty well attached to the two metal strips. How has anyone else dealt with this? Cut the metal strips? Forcably sepparate the strips from the battery?

Solder off the battery holders from the PCB, and solder a new one in would be the easiest I believe.

Man, I had to RIIIIPPP the battery from the two metal connectors. At least they're still connected to the motherboard.

You do know that a new battery will have those metal connectors attached, right? If you are planning on replacing the battery you have gained nothing else than minimising the risk of damage from a leaking battery, but then again, that's better than nothing.

Neat. I found a replacement battery that's a slight improvement over the leaking one I got rid of.

The old battery was a Varta, and the one I found is from the same company.

If anyone needs one for their Ami, the store had two left.

Before you dance with joy. STOP. Remove that battery. Solder a wire to each side of the remaining metal strips. Run these leads along the front inside bottom edge and come up into the oval cutout at the front of the left floppy bay. Solder the remaining leads to the battery, and then put this new battery in a plastic medicine bottle. This prevents future problems.

PS> the original battery was soldered THRU the multilayered A3000 motherboard, from the underside of the board. Your lucky to haved "ripped it out". I do the job by wrapping the area in cotton or cloth batting soaked in alcohol, and then dremel cutting the battery away, leaving the entire metal "ears" upright. The wet batting keeps the metal dust from the motherboard.

Sheesh.....That is what I was gonna try to do....RIPPPP it out. Not sure where I will take the MB to get the new one installed. I am surprised nobody has come up with a better system to replace the battery. IE an new battery bracket. My battery leacked on my A4000 MB and I think that is WHY the MB is now dead. It must have caused dammage by the RAM brackets beside it. I do not want this to happen on the A3000 MB.

 :-D Ok, maybe using words like [color=ff0000]RRIIIIIPPP[/color][/b][/i] wasn't quite an accurate way of describing taking a knife and separting the metal "ears" from the battery. It just took some force to do so.

 :idea: the idea of putting the battery in a small bottle is a pretty good idea. There's a surplus store up the road that often has small bottles, just the right size for the "barrel" battery.

Whats all this talk about RIIIPPing out the battery?  Just unsolder it and if there is any corrosion use alcohol to clean up the area, let dry then use overcoat pen to cover it up, see my image gallery for a pic of my A3000MB repair job.  I did the lithium hack so now I never have to do this again, and can use cheap PC coin cells!  Woot!

Glad you got it working!
The new battery you have should be a Lion Battery, unlike the Nicad that used to be on the MB the Lion battery shouldn't burst and leak.
I don't think the bottle thing is required, but hey if it works I guess it's one way to be sure :-) Not the most aesthetically pleasing though :-)

Li-On batteries require different charger AFAIK.

I find the little plastic 35mm film canisters look better for containing the battery; so it doesn't seem like my Amiga is on drugs when I open her up
