keyboard layout
« on: April 01, 2003, 03:18:39 AM »
My question is this: How do I set the Keyboard map to be UK?

I got this amiga from a guy in a Canada. The keyboard seems to me to be a UK layout but the keys type a USA layout: When I type [shift] + 2 I get a @ even though it shows " on the keyboard. Make sence? Here's another: If I type [shift] + # (which is where the " should be) I get ". Thats what i should get on a USA keyboard. Anyway, the keayboard acts like a USA keyboard but the symbols on the keyboard are different.

You change it in prefs/input. Not locale. Locale is only for choosing language and timezone, not keyboard-layout.

There is a way to set the keyboard in the shell if you boot without startup-sequence. cant remember right now, cos I am at work, typing on a Compaq Deskpro EN (nice case, shame its 'running' NT4 :-( ) I'll try to find it...

use the setkeyboard command - you may wanna play around to get the exact match to your keyboard.  :-D
have fun !

I played with it last night. The WB manual says to set the keymap. In the manual it shows many different keymaps but on mine it shows only 2: Dvorak, US.

So I did some more research and with WB 3.1, the keymaps are on the Storage disk. I havn't tried it yet but I plan on messing with it tonight. I think I will get it solved tonight.
