Transfering files from Amiga to PC
« on: March 31, 2003, 08:40:30 PM »
I've been transfering files from Amiga to PC using PC2Am308 package from Aminet. The machines are connected by null modem cable. Unfortunately it seems that the transfer stops sometimes (in the Amiga end nothing seems to happen). In that case the transfer goes on again if I close PC2Amiga program from PC and start it again... Have anyone else experienced this? What software do you use when transfering files between Amiga and PC via null modem cable?

On my systems, i'm using PCMCIA with Cnet.device and MiamiDX. I have set up a FTP on my pc wich functions as a fileserver and my Miggys get what they need from there. I'm renting out presentation systems which is also configured to log onto my FTP to get script updates. All this works well, but this is allways small files (Max 200kb/file) If i want to backup one of my Amiga partitions, i pack them to a .lha file and move them over to the FTP. If this is a large partition/file, the systems sometimes hangs, but if i retry, it will work after a while. I think as has been mentioned, the system can't handle the immense load over time, but i have a lot more positive experience with pcmcia than serial/paralell cable.

As you already have the null modem cable, why not just use a couple of terminal programs. Hyperterm is there on windows (for what it's worth) and there's plenty of Amiga terminal emulations on Aminet. NComm even has a free keyfile on Aminet.

I'm sure this came up recently somewhere...

Anyhow, if youre running Win2000/WinXP (maybe WinMe too) somewhere in the dos prompt properties there is an idle option that suspends the program when its window ins't the active one/minimized.

This buggers up PC2Am since the PC side stops listening - all you need to do is find the option an uncheck it.

I ran into this problem too and unchecking the idle when inactive box (or whatever it was called) fixed it..
