A3000 & 2nd floppy drive problem
« on: November 07, 2005, 01:07:14 AM »
I am setting up my old A3000, and I am having trouble getting DF1: to work correctly.  I have set the jumper on the drive correctly, checked the floppy drive cable orientation twice, tried three different floppy drives and still cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.  As soon as the power is turned on the floppy drive activity light on DF1: comes on and stays on continuously.  When a disk is inserted after workbench has loaded from the HD, DF0: works fine, but DF1: shows six icons on the screen as follows:  DF1:????, DF2:????, DF3:????, PC1:????, PC2:???? and PC3:????.  Any Ideas?
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

amigadave,
Have u set the "no df1" motherboard jumper so that df1: is active?
Usually when the drive lights on all the time, its a sign the cable is on the drive backward, you may check for that.
pin 1 on the drive is away from the power connector.
red stripe on cable should also be away from the power connector side.
last, you might check and make sure someone hasn't put a pc floppy cable in the 3000,which has a different twist than the amiga cable. this all assumes you are using amiga floppy drives of course.

hope that helps,
Mike

Thanks, that is the kind of info I was looking for.  It has been so many years that I have been away from using my Amigas everyday that I have forgotten some of those things.
