« on: October 29, 2005, 11:30:46 PM »
Hi guys

I have an amiga 600 here and I want to know if posibble connnect A1200 roms to the A600

The amiga 1200 rom come with 2 chips instead 1 of the A600 but ...
I read I don't remember where that the A1200 roms chips can be plugged in a sandwich on an amiga 500 or 600 (one above the other) and soldered of course

any one here know if this is posible? or provide a link with a good source and explanation?

thanks guys

An adapter to fit the 2 ROMs should be pretty easy, all pins wired straight except /OE which needs a bit of logic to decode which ROM can output to the data bus (something like /ROM0_OE = /OE & !A1 , /ROM1_OE = /OE & A1)

But it's the content of the ROMs thats gonna cause you problems, IIRC the A1200 ROMs were compiled for an '020 CPU, so there's a good chance the 68000 of the A600 will run into instructions it can't understand and you'll be in guru hell :(
 (Just remembered, utility.library is 020+ on the A1200 for a couple of functions too...)
 Then there's the odd differences between the A600 and A1200, eg scsi.device in an A1200 ROM will only run if it finds a AA Gayle, so you won't be able to use a HD on the A600

Like C64_d0c said, it'll be a lot easier to buy a 40.63 ROM.

Ok..here is a Question

How about somehow getting the A1200 to emulate the CD32's ROMS?

so that......for example I insert an audio CD into my A1200's CD drive and it goes to the CD32 CDplayer menu? or even better........insert a CD+G Karaoke CD and it plays it with text and all?  can this be done?  I saw something similar for the CDTV...............you can boot the ROMS on an A600, but the CDplayer didnt work if I remember. It just displayed it and the CDTV screen saver............I think it was called CDTV Tools.

Or how about this.....can someone make a program that makes it possible to Open the CD32's CD+G and AudioCD menus within a workbench windo on a CD32 with SX-1 or SX32?  or any AGA Amiga for that matter.............and the Same for ECS Amigas with a CDTV audio menu in a window.

This will be so cool........to even open it as a public screen. And multitask with it.

ahhhhhhhhh, Imagine Karaoke on yur A600 or A1200 ?  Karaoke is becoming SUPER popular here in NEW YORK and USA..now is the time for this program............We need it.my Amiga will be at the frontline as a Karaoke machine :-)

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

I think that's cos both the CD32 and the CDTV use cd.device to play CDs. Pretty much the same problem as above, it's written for specific hardware (the  CD32 and CDTV drives aren't SCSI or IDE)
 There's a cd.device wrapper on the Dev2.1 CD that was meant for testing CD32 stuff on an A4000 with a SCSI drive, I'll have to have a fiddle and see if I can get it working :hammer:

I know it's late and it's probably my dodgy memory, but wasn't there a ATAPI compatible cd.device that came with an IDE-Fix clone many years ago?

@Doobrey

Uhm, not sure what your saying but.....

Basically I want to be able to insert a CD into an A1200 CD drive and have it boot off the CD and go straight to the CD32 music interface just like a real CD32.  Same with the A600 or any ECS amiga...except to the CDTV one.  I know this is possible :-)

I have the actual CD32 ROMS on my HD, so I guess one can rip the software that runs the CD off them and just make it run off WB somehow.........or reburn it into an A1200 3.1 EPROM

@leirbag

you could probably enter a line in s:startup-sequence to launch the cd player instead of loading the workbench public screen.  You would probably have to write a simple script to make sure you activate the necessary devices and libraries, but it should be pretty easy to do.  Eyetech used to sell a rack mount A1200 that booted from cd instead of df0:

Ok...can someone please make this then?

anyone??????

This will totally eliminate the need for a CD32/SX32 in my opinion....except for people who want Akiko (seriously...who cares....only Microcosm uses this I think)

oh!  and except for one wanting the FMV card as well :-)
