Macs are cool, I was always a fan of MacOS, but man, osX with that BSD kernel is phat.

Can't be beat for graphics and video.

Shameless plug:
I actually have an indigo iMac 400 (450 maybe), I was just thinking about trading or selling (if anyone is considering such a thing).

Cute.  But IMHO a waste of money.  What did you want to use it for?
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I got a Color Classic (Mystic upgraded) for the same reason.  :-D

I would personally save the ~$200 and just get a Mac Mini.   Although they cost more, and you lose the all-in-one form factor, they are soooooo much faster than even a iMac G3/700.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I would pay $200 for a Mystic Color Classic, but not for an iMac 700.

Unless you "just must have it," man just buy a mini the laptop drives in the mini are just as fast (4200RPM , the mini 80GB drive is actually 5400RPM I believe)... the processor is MUCH faster (the G4 makes a big difference)... it can have more RAM...

Basically you will like the peformance MUCH better.

I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a CRT iMac a any speed.

Just my two cents.

Sure, here's my OSX Tiger desktop browsing your thread on amiga.org, and a shot of my Documents folder to show off some flashy icons.

I don't see the comparison. $400 for a games console or $500 for a fully fledged computer? I'd go for the mini any day. Besides, you said you wanted a Mac, not a games console, right?

"However, isn't the Xbox an all inclusive computer/game console solution?"

I don't think so. Some cats will have Linux on it in a blink, but Linux just ain't OS 10. OS 10, is an OS you can geek on AND use AND have a good time doing it. I have a BeOS machine now to geek with (And a C-128D) and I have to admit that I boot into XP more than I like.

Not to bag on folks that like Linux, but it ain't my cup of tea... I saving for a new Mac currently. (I sold my old one in order to buy a springbar tent (canvas, best tent in the USA) and I've missed my Mac since about week two.)

"The OS would have to be as solid as OS10.4."

OS 10 just works. Then if you want to start screwing around with it? It is there for you as well.

Correct. However, isn't the Xbox an all inclusive computer/game console solution?

No. It is based on triple(!) G4 PPC chips, which are the same processors used by Apple at the moment, but that doesn't mean it will run OSX. In fact I can tell you that without serious hacking of the OS, it won't. The XBOX 360 does have more functionality in its OS than the original XBOX, but nothing that comes close to MacOX, and nothing that can't be done with an original XBOX and a modchip for a lot less cash.

Seriously, if you want a Mac, go for the Mini. You won't regret it  :-)

What benifits?

Well there are the run-of-the-mill benifits you can find on most any advocacy site so I will simply say...

I have never regretted spending my money on an Apple computer, but I have twice built an x86 machine and then thought "I wished I had saved for a Mac."

I prefer the Mac enviroment/scene.

P.S. I also like the BeOS scene in general and the OS, but it being what it is... and the Morph vs. Amiga being what it is... I think you'll find the Mac scene is alive. We even have an old fashioned Mac User group in Utah that meets at the UofU. :-)
