Best Paint Programs for Amiga?
« on: March 29, 2003, 02:26:55 AM »
I'm looking for an Amiga paint program superior to MS_Paint that can run entirely on my SVGA monitor.

Personal Paint does not suffice, and neither does DeluxePaint III.

Lately I have been using MS_Paint ("Paint") and MGI Photosuite. Does Amiga have anything like Photosuite III?

Hi all!

FxPaint V2.0 from IOSpirit.  Pretty cool program, and is, in my opinion,
is pretty up to date with other programs like it on other platforms.

My all time favorite is Deluxepaint, but as we all know, it's time
has passed.

I've used Photogenics and can say that it's very impressive...  I just haven't quite invested the time to really learn how to use it to its potential.

I've never used it, but you might try PerfectPaint.

I wanted to check out Perfect Paint - but I can't seem to find the render.library.

TVPaint and PPaint, for different reasons, are also great.  TVPaint easily has the best anti-aliasing I've ever seen in a paint program on ANY platform, it smooths images incredibly even on a low-spec Amiga.  It can do a lot of things you'd even require an image processing program like Photogenics to otherwise do.

You can get TVPaint for free from our site, the only requirement is that you have a graphics card in your amiga (doesn't run on AGA or the ECS, older chipsets).

Cloanto's PPaint is great for its powerful dithering algorithms and arexx support, among other things.

DPaint V still has some unmatched features but it doesn't support graphics cards, so usually you'd have to choose between it and TVPaint on the same amiga anyway.

Neither DPaint no PPaint are freeware, though - you can probably find them on eBay, AmiBench or elsewhere, they're still around.

TVPaint is by far the best that I`ve used. I can`t see many things wrong with it, though saying that it has its downfalls, but not many. Much less than others I`ve used. Damn good with a graphics tablet, even if my graphics tablet isn`t supported properly by it.

hmm there is a freeware version of PPaint, on aminet:

AMINET VERSION

This archive contains a complimentary edition of Personal Paint
version 7.1b, for exclusive distribution through the Aminet internet
archives. This is the full and latest commercial version (not a
demonstration version). The main differences between this distribution
and the commercial product are some tutorials and artwork add-ons, which
for space reasons would not be practical to include in this archive, and
the GIF I/O library, which cannot be redistributed due to licensing
restrictions.

assuming you have a graphics card

TVPaint (great for freehand drawing)

then you should have at least one of these too

ImageProcessors
1) ArtEffect 4 (very good, especially with the addon plugins)
2) ImageFX 4.5 (nuf said)

additional Paint Programs
1) Photogenics 5 (very good, even if it is quite backwards IMO)
2) FxPaint 2.0 (don't know if this should be instead of TVPaint, but since I Consider TVPaint unmissable...)
3) PerfectPaint (well it is Free)
4) PPaint (well it is also free)
MacOS X rulez!

Quad Mac Rulez!

Well it would seem that TV Paint is voted the best (hey it actually is the best for standard  amiga g cards).
Fot AGA I still like DPaint 5.5.
ImageFX for processing is a good choice.
If you are lucky enough to have owned or do own an Opal Vision card, OpalPaint v2.? is by far the best Paint/Processing  graphics tool ever on the Amiga. I sure wish Asha had got the deveopers to release it to be ported to CGX or Picasso it would have been killer.

I do agree that TV Paint is the best out there major shortfall is only three layers but is the only thing I find I could use more of.

@amigau

I have just downloaded the TVPaint but I can't run the last program tvpd3.SFX. I have done as the instructions said, yet when I click on it, it says it isn't executable... any ideas?

I can't understand that noone has atleast mentioned Brilliance, I love that program, best pixel-based paint program IMO. Don't know if it works on a gfx card though, and it's commercial.
Slightly bored and severly confused..
