One more 8-bit question (Sorry)
« on: October 22, 2005, 08:16:40 AM »
Hey what do you think...

SuperCPU for my 128D?
or
Commodore One MB?

I understand C One ins't 100% compatable, but it comes with FC, ethernet and so many other goodies that would cost a nut and may have issues working together. I really can only afford one.

What do you folks think?

Personally, I'd go C=One... Have been toying with the idea... nice that it can be configured to behave as a variety of machines...

The C-One currently does not have a C64 core (i.e. it doesn't emulate a C64), and it might take a while until it gets one, as the person that should have originally provided it is not able to do so.

(that info is a few months old, if there's news regarding this I have missed it)

A SuperCPU is extremely hard to come by. Maurice Randall (the guy who has the rights to produce them) was busy with his real life for quite a while and didn't accept orders. I think he announced that things have changed for the better, but by now he must have an extremely large backlog of waiting orders.

That's *some* hobby. I can't understand why people would put that much money into 8 bit Commodores.
But I suppose if I had the same level of enthusiasm for them that I had a few years ago (but only 4-6 years ago), I'd probably go for the Commodore 1.

What can you run on the super CPU? It's incompatable with the 6502 is it not? Whereas the Commodore 1 (AFAIK) is 6502 compatable.

If you do get a C1, stick an nVidia 7800 GTX in it! That would rock! ;-)

(Only kidding :P )

" I can't understand why people would put that much money into 8 bit Commodores. "

It's because you're a boring person. :-D

Well, after the news about Randell I guess I might just go C1. Right after JiffyDOSin' my C128-D adn 1571s, as well as a nice  monitor (1084 or 2002) and an XE1541 cable.

Thanks, I'll keep my eye on the c1.

Also what do you think 1084 or 2002 monitor for a C-128D (I got have the 80-columns).

the supercpu has a 65816 cpu in it. this is a 16bit 6502 compatible cpu; i think the supercpu one is running at 20mhz. it can also access larger amounts of ram. so most 6502 code will run on it but at it will run extreamely fast. samoe games and stuff will run too fast. its like running many pc/xt/at  games on modern machines. like zaxxon for the pc.
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,
and its read only!

Actually, it very much does have a C64 core (as of Nov '94).  The PAL core is being worked on currently and the NTSC core is available.  I just got my C-One board in yesterday :)  It's still only acting like a standard C64 though, no SuperCPU support (though it does have a 65816 chip).

@icbrkr

Why not add it to your computers in your sig. Not ashamed are you? Stand up and be proud!!!

You should post an update here, or perhaps give us new to c1 a link to a forum. I may be a dork, but I find c1 to be really cool and Jerry to be really hot by virtue. :-D
