Weird PPC software problem,
« on: October 06, 2005, 12:42:53 PM »
Hi all,

I am running an A1200 603/40/175 with 128mb ram, Mediator 1200, Voodoo3 and Powerflyer.

Here is the weirdness.

I have installed all the required software for running PPC software. The demo's all work fine. No problems so far.

Now, i have installed Nightlong and Quake to my workbench partition (PPC versions) and they work fine.

But, if i install them to another partition on that drive or on the second channel of the powerflyer then they wont work, i get PPC Exception Errors.
How can that be? I am totally confused.

Oddly, if i install Payback with update 7 then it wont work no matter what partition i put it on. I really dont know where to go from here, i dont know what to narrow the problem down to.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,

I did think about the filesystem.

Firstly i was using FFS for the workbench partition and PFS3 for everything else.

So i changed it and now everything is FFS from the OS3.9 CD.

Is there something i should be aware of?

Thanks

Hello

post here your:

MaxTransfer, Mask values and n. of DosBuffers/partition too.

About WarpOS settings, disable "Memory Protection" if enabled.

Should be better to use the AOS3.9 BoingBag2 FFS (even if PFS3 works fine here with WOS/W3D stuff)

@Framiga

My Workbench Partition:

Mask : 0X7FFFFFFF
Max Transfer: 0X00FFFFFF
File System Block Size:512

My other partitions:

Mask: 0X7FFFFFFE
MaxTransfer: 0X0001FE00
File System Block Size : 1024

Of the second partion, i have about 10 of those split into 3.9gig each.

Does this mean anything to you?

Thanks.

doh! you MUST use the same MASK and same MaxTranfer values for ALL the
partition that rely with the same device.

Use the second sets of values even for the first one.

MASK= 0x7FFFFFFE (or C as final)

MaxTransfer= 0x0001FE00

Blocksize =whatyouwant

1024 for large partitions

Sorry if i come across as stupid but i have never messed about with the settings inHDToolbox before.

I have always used the defaults.

Cheers.

Imback again,

I tried the hard drive values and it still doesnt work.

It doesnt matter what software i put on the Primary drive on the second channel, it wont work. I installed some games with WHDLoad, which work on the first drive, but they wontgo either.

It has to be to do with how i set up the hard drive with the Powerflyer. It cant be a faulty hardware i think because my CD Rom is the slave on the second channel and that is fine.

Can anyone give me a walkthrough on setting up the second drive, or perhaps another idea altogether.

This is very frustrating. Thanks all.
