Should any of these chips get warmer after some power-on time:
Gary, ROM, CIAs?
What about other chips?
(in a dead A2000  :-( )

and is Gary identical in A500 and A2000?

From the ICs you mentioned, only the Gary should get a little warmer after some power on time.
 
Unless you have have Serial or paralell or Floppy ports usage, the CIAs should be cool.

The ROM IC should be cool as well.

Every video dedicated IC should get warm. So Denise and Agnus should get a little warm. Denise should get warmer of the both.

I'm not 100% sure, but yes, the Gary chip is the same in A500 and A2000. Just compare the code numbers. If they are the same, you can exchange them in these machines.

What is the exact problem with your A2000 ? Completely dead machine ? What's on the display when you do power on the machine ?

I see, thanks Mugo. this A2000 has been 'dead' for a while now. I already asked here about ways to locate the problem. When I turn it on, the power LED doesn't light up and the screen stays black. I even replaced the sockets of both 68000 and ROM. desoldering 64 pin was tedious, but also without any results.. :-(  :-x
When it did work I remember disconnecting keyboard while the power was on, could that have damaged something? also, I inserted once ROM chip badly, some pins were not connected.

BTW, chip labeled 5721 is very cold, as well as Gary, should I try to replace it?

edit: I've just put Gary, CIAs, ROM and 68000 from broken A2000 into working A500, and A500 booted fine, so those are working.. argh.. :roll:

only one chip left non tested is Buster 5721.
will Amiga refuse to work if its 'busted'?
