Magic VGA Review
« on: September 25, 2005, 07:39:28 PM »
For those who were wondering about the Magic VGA compasite scan doubler:

http://www.particles.org/reviews/vgabox.php

Sounds ok for playing games with an A1200..you could use 31khz pass through, then when playing games just press a single button to display scan doubled 15khz on the same monitor.  I just picked one up on ebay for $34 + shipping.

I imagine it's going to look like complete hell on my LCD flatscreen monitor, but it's worth a try. I'll let you know how it works out.

Thanks for posting that review.  I've ordered the SD/FF from Eyetech for my A1200 and after reading that, I think I made the right decision as I wanted to do more than just play games.

It's an absolute bargain for people who only want to play games.

@vic20owner

 Well, this may be an unfair review.....I will tell you why...............

You cannot expect clear video coming from the composite.even in a native TV it doesnt look good.

A real true way to fully test hat magic box......is for you to attach a SuperGen SX genlock.......and test the Magic VGA with S-video coming out of the Amiga......or at least get a CD32 and test that via the S-Video port............as S-Video looks almost as clear as RGB on an S-Video TV, so I am sure the Worbench being scan doubled from an S-video signal might be quite good.

Let us know!  I want one of these VGA boxes.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

I was going to order a SD/FF from Eyetech but I mailed them to ask about the stock levels and if there were any issues with fitting one to a 1200 with a FASTATA (I heard there was).

They mailed me back....YES we have them in stock (fantastic) and YES you can't fit one with a FASTATA.......damn!

I'm still looking for an alternative, the external ones go for silly money on ebay, and I’m just not prepared to pay £150+ for one.
