@som99:

I think there was a never released version of the tcp/ip-stack AS225 that could be run under kickstart1.3, but you will need atleast kickstart2.0 to run the existing tcp/ip-stacks.

With some dedication and work, you should be able to get the last free version of AmiTCP - AmiTCP3.0b2 running in that 1MB of memory you have over a nullmodem cable using either the  slip or ppp protocol. Which of those two you can use depends on the capabilities of your pc os.

A tip regarding AmiTCP3.0b2: the startnet script created by the installation will contain an error - exactly what is mentioned in the notes or readme in the archives root-dir.

You might also find this and continued here useful regarding how to fix the startnet script issue and the AmiTCP setup in general.

Getting this to work is very very hard. I'd suggest you try to learn the basics first before attempting.

Maybe you can mange it with a copy of NOS, a minimal internet operating systems for the amiga 500 and other models that can handle among other protocols the ax25 used in HAM-Radio Communications.

i have had that same vision.

unfortunatly most good brousers wont run under os1.x

I have always wanted to see a screen shot of an A500 on the internet using os1.x

but i think you will need 3.1

I have 3 A500's kicking around and one of them has 3.1 roms in it. i upgraded it because i was doing an A500 prodject to run the latest 68k AmigaOS (3.9) and use it.

i gave up on the prodject in search for a Viper530 accelorator.

68030 @ xx mhz and 128MB Ram + 3.5" IDE Controller

very very rare though. and had no luck in finding one though  :cry:

Im sure there is software for the a500 1.x OS you just have to do some research.

good luck

:-)

i have done it with an a500 but you will need to upgrade/aquire the following things memory, hard drive, workbench 2.0+, and a tcpip stack.
i never was able to get the amitcp to work with a modem however miami worked fine. sadly i understand miami is no longer available for purchase. i don't know of any other tcpip stack that will work as good as miami though. :-(
The only stupid question is a question not asked.

@jkirk:

AmiTCP works fine as long as you manage to get the configuration ok. It is also faster and takes less memory than Miami. You should be able to make it run from diskette if you really wanted to.

that was the problem the configuration files are daunting for even knowledgeable users. but i do agree it is faster.

amigaforever currently comes with workbench 3.9 installed and yes it does have a tcpip stack but i believe that os requires an '020 processor so i don't know if the tcpip stack would function on an a500.

you can purchase version 2.1 and 3.1 kick rom for a500 this usually comes with the os. you just replace the one currently on the motherboard.

PS make sure the rom is for an a500 as there are different roms for different models.

since you asked about amiga forever the os disks are on the cd for all versions as well as the rom files(for use in winuae) but to get the rom itself try here.

softhut
2.04 rom at softhut

@som99:

With "internet on the A500", do you mean internet as a working tcp/ip stack on an A500 connected to the internet, or is it in layman terms as in "web browsing on an A500"? The latter takes more hardware and software to accomplish than the former.

As you live in sweden, the easiest thing would be to buy a 3.1 kickstart from www.ggs-data.se. You could probably get the 3.1 workbench disks from there too. If not, get it from www.vesalia.de (inside the eu). And as jkirk said OS3.1 is the most recent version you can run on clean A500 as 3.5 and 3.9 requires a 68020 cpu at a minimum (the A500 has a 68000).

If you are gonna pull this of though, you will need to know some about how to use the amiga workbench and software for it.
