Mac Help Needed!
« on: September 12, 2005, 11:17:38 PM »
Hey all, I recently got a G3 Beige desktop, it has a RageII+DVDI graphics chip in it, can I use this for OpenGL games? I'm having a hard time making it work at all. I have the latest drivers from ATI and MacOS 9.2.2 with all available updates, OpenGL 1.2.4 is there too.

It's quite a low spec chip so depending on what you are trying to run it may not work. I've quite comfortably played quake 2 on mine, but I think that was probably using software mode rather than open gl.

Have you thought about looking for a rage128 or radeon 7000, that'd probably be the best idea.
Restraining orders are just another way of saying I love you!

The RageII should support the Apple/ATI OpenGL extensions.  But, it's not going to be fast as it's not hardware accellerated.  Note that some games require hardware accelleration (for example, Tomb Raider).

It's much better to get a Radeon 7000 PCI as mentioned above.  (I have one in my Beige MT and OS9.2.2 flies, and it actually makes Panther much more usable.)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Ahh okay, I was Trying to Run MacGLQuake, but I get an Error 2 on startup, the older versions tell me it can't find any opengl screenmodes. I Even did the upgrade to 6mb Vram to play it, d'oh!

Okay so if I get a Radeon PCI Mac edition, can I disable my RageII onboard, or will it be like the amiga and a mode for each card and just choose the one you want?

I'd like to play the 3DFX version of carmageddon too, I've read about something that lets you run GLide games on non 3dfx hardware, how good is it?

Thanks for all your help folks.
