ok so my sound problem has been solved with using my old A500's PSU but I'm noticing a 5 second delay from the time I turn power on the PSU to the time my A1200 actually starts booting? also every 2nd boot I have to ctrl-A-A to get it to boot up properly.

Checked the voltages & they seem fine at 5.2 and 11.9

Time for a new PSU perhaps?

I managed to get myself one of those new A1200 PSU's, great bit of kit, not sure if they are still available?   Otherwise just grab a 1200 supply off eBay, lots of people say the stock 1200 supplies are weak but my old one was fine.  If you're not using a mechanical HD then your PS will get an easier life anyway.
Life begins at 100 MIPS!

Nice Ports on AmiNet!

@ Novacoder

True especially as I've had this A500 PSU since 86 so it's served me well in its service life :-)
Need the extra juice so I won't b getting an A1200 PSU as I've for a real 2.5" drive, 030@50, Subway USB and fan in my 1200.

You may well find that a "bad" PSU works fine when you recap the Amiga. It's still worth doing.

You also need to check -12V it's used for sound in Amigas ...

You can recap PSU too but only if you know what you're doing ...

@ spirantho & blizz120

replaced my caps this past winter so pretty sure it's PSU noise related as hissing problem is all gone with PSU change.  Just looking for a modern A1200 psu replacment

The amiga has an awesome analogue type sound. THere is something wrong with your 1200 if it sounds like that.

seriously ? there's nothing analogue about the amiga's sound. I wish it was - something akin to a SID chip successor in the amiga would have been mind blowing in the day!
