A scammer tried to buy my A3000T
« on: September 05, 2005, 02:31:51 AM »
So I have a ad on AW.net for my A3000T (its gone now..sold on Ebay)..but before I put it on ebay I had it listed there...

so I got this email....

==================
Hello, I saw your advert over the web and am much interested  inbuying
it. I live in canada,I will be responsible for the shippment  down to
my location, so please kindly write me back with your last  offering
price.I will also need some of its recent pics,and will like to  know its
present condition .I am Looking forward to your soonest  reply.
                       MY REGARDS...............ALEXANDRAL

You can email alexandral at: alexandral_man_0009@yahoo.com or Phone:
====================

If you've ever been emailed by scammers you know how it looks like.  First off, what idiot would put ALEXANDRAL ALEXANDRAL as first name/last name?  So I played along...

I said:

==========
I'm selling it for $500. How do you plan on paying
and recieving the shipment?
==========

Scammer replied:

==========
Hello Alex Bartonek
     thanks for your reply i want you to know that i am okay with the price  and that of the conditon, also the price is okay by me but i have told you that i have my own shipping i dont want you to worry about the shipping i will like you to give me your info address so i can contact my cliet to issue you a check of $5000 for the payment and > shiping, so as soon as u got the check just quickly get it cash and deduct ur own money and send the remaining balance to my shipper so < that he can use that for the neccessary arrangment of his coming for the pivk up of the item ,so i will like you to provide uraddress were < u want the check should be send to you , so that u can received the < check quickly and also i will like to have ur phone number
because as
far as the transaction goes on i will still like to discuss futher with you on phone, so if u are agree with this my item and if are intersted in selling the payment. thank get back to me as soon as u received my email with your futher information...........thanks
==========

What stupid fsk would pay $5000 to someone he doesnt know then say, well keep $500 out of it and return $4500.  Scammers are so stupid..One day I will catch one and literally beat the $hit out of him.

So I told the idiot:

==========
You're gonig to pay $4500 for shipping?
==========

Scammer said:

==========
HELLO
HAVE TOLD YOU THAT  I  HAVE MY OWN SHIPPER NOW SO YOU ARE GOING TO SEND THE BALANCE TO MY SHIPPER OKAY
==========

I replied again to try to get him to bite and what I wanted to do was ship him a whole bunch of junk..he never replied after that.   :-(

Aww.. shame he never replied!

Would have been amusing to send a load of bricks, or worse!

Amiga 3000T, $500...
Shipping, $4500...
Seeing the look on the scammer's face when he opens his container of bricks.... priceless!  :-D

Yes this is the current trend.  I see it on Craigs List a lot.  idiots trying to scam.  I once posted a FREE Mac Plus to pick up local in Seattle and I got a scam reply for that too!  I told him it was FREE so no need to pay.  Never replied.  I would love to grab one of em by the neck and break it.  I also see a lot of Apple Macs and Powerbooks as scams on ebay too.  They offer it for sale outside of ebay for a fixed price and offer an email address in the body of ad.  Beware.

Inthesand:

I would have been burned if I was a noob.  He would of sent me a check for $5000..probably a real check but stolen.. I would have deposited it and taken my cut including shipping and sent the rest back..he'd get about $4400-4500 cash and the check would bounce at the bank putting me $5000 in the negative + a A3000T would have been stolen.

I just received a similar proposal last night for my A3000 after the ad I put on another Amiga dedicated WEB site.
Needless to say, I immediately reported this fraud attempt to the WEBMASTER and sent a proper Email to him.

Here's his Email contents:

Hello
     thanks for your reply i want you to know that i am okay with the price and that of the conditon, also the price is okay by me but i have told you that i have my own shipping i dont want you to worry about the shipping i will like you to give me your info address so i can contact my cliet to issue you a check of $5000 for the payment and > shiping, so as soon as u got the check just quickly get it cash and deduct ur own money and send the remaining balance to my shipper so < that he can use that for the neccessary arrangment of his coming for the pivk up of the item ,so i will like you to provide uraddress were < u want the check should be send to you , so that u can received the < check quickly and also i will like to have ur phone number

                                              Best Regards

By the way, HIS Email address is:

    alexandral_man_0009@yahoo.com

This is just to warn people to be very careful when replying to strange Email addresses and providing valuable personal informations, such as address and phone number or, perhaps, even Bank Account details.

Regards.

You would think the f-ing scammers would atleast fix misspellings and typos if they are going to take time to draft a scam email!  WTF man!  And the theme is always the same, all arangements are taken cared of and here is $5000, just send the rest. Yeah right.

I guess they get morons who fall for it all the time.  I am so sick and tired of these idiots!  If I ever come face to face with one I will smash their face in with my Amiga 2000 keyboard!!!!

The point of these scams is not a bogus check, its to get your address, and accounts, phone number ect. ID theft. It's like the Nigreian who died and left millions that you can collect. All they want is id info. The poor english is the big giveaway. I doubt this guy is in Canada... :pissed:

I'm not trying to sway your opinion and dont really care actually.  Looks like the only person who thought you were scammed in your situation was.... you.   Look on E-Bay, I'm sure you will find replacement parts for your A1200.

After having read through this thread from top to bottom, I've decided that I want to become eccentric enough that I have to have a broker coordinate my Amiga purchases for me.

Actually I've talked with a few people who have been scammed. The scammer sends a faked money order which cashes fine... then a week or two later it gets to the original bank and is refused and then bounces in your account.  So basically you think it's good and give up the $$ to the buyer, then it bounces and you owe $4500.
