FPS / FPS - know what I mean?
« on: March 23, 2003, 05:17:59 PM »
Frames Per Second has been abbreviated to FPS since the dawn of time, but lately people have been using FPS as First Person Shooter.  This I believe originated with C&VG magazine - a kids computer magazine (IMHO).  Since the two phrases are often used together, and are relevant to the same games etc, it would make sense to abbreviate First Person Shooter to 1PS or something.
Rant over.

Agreed. From here on, it's 1PS for first person, 3PS for third person shooters. Except if you're the one getting the most beating and/or being shot. Then it's surely a 2PS  :-P

I agree.  I've heard this since Quake II appeared and it's been bothering me since then. :-x

When you talk about the technical aspects of games, you still call frames per sec fps.  Using fps as first person shooter is just stupid.

1ps it is :-)
