Do I need a highter watt PSU for Viper 030 Accelerator?
« on: September 02, 2005, 02:19:33 PM »
I've got an A1200 (KS3.1) with a 500MB 2.5" HD and a Creative DVD-ROM drive using a 4-way IDE Adapter and it powers up perfectly.

Since I have inserted my Viper MKII 68030@33Mhz w/ 16MB RAM I get a purple screen when I turn on the power.

If I remove the RAM from the board it will go through the normal process, but my HD will not boot.

If I remove my HD & DVD-ROM, it will boot to the KS3.1 screen.

My current power supply is a basic Commodore 25 watt PSU.  Do I need a higher rating PSU to run all this or do I have a differant problem ?

Thanks.

I think 23Watt psu is too less for that config. Im using with similar miggy old good A500 heavy psu and it works fine
(it have 4.5Amp for 5V)
too lazy to use shift key properly...

It's your Viper, i also had the same accelerator in my A1200, and had the
same problem with KS3.1.
According to the dealer ,who sold it to me, the ROM on the Viper needs to
be replaced by a newer one.
It was for me too much of a hassle to send it of and it probally would cost
me more then the whole accelerator.
I gave it to my little brother, after i bought a secondhand A4000.

Just found this after having a search on google.  Can anyone confirm that KS3.1 has a problem with the Viper MKII ?

EDIT:  After using my old Kickstart 3.0 ROMS, this board works perfectly.  Unfortunately, I want to be able to use a board which will work with Kickstart 3.1 ROMS, so I will be re-selling this item on eBay along with my Kickstart 3.0 ROMS.  Oh well, win some loose some.

Hi,

Doody, I won this board off you on ebay and you will be happy 'or sad' to know that all it needed was a firmware update to make it compatable with OS 3.1 roms.
It took me days to find a working copy of the correct disk it needed. All you needed was the DKB Ferret (SCSI ADDON) disk to boot and, hey presto updated firmware!
Works great with 3.1 now and 128mb simm.

Sorry, I hope that didn't sound too in yer face. Just wanted to let you know I got it working is all!  ;-)
