Hi :-)

Try it with a graphic board, if you see something trough it, it could be a small burned 1 Ohm resistance somewhere on the back of the motherboard (solder side).

BTW, where do you live?

Guys,  I dont think a black A4000 is a prototype, I own and have owned lots of early and one off type of amiga equipment and I think the black A4000 were a special order.

AFAIK the A4k-protos-cases were not only black, but also
featured a different (and not really fitting) form of the case.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

I had one of these for a while.  The problem I had was similar to yours.  I could fix the problem by shorting out the sound from the RCA plugs on the back left (looking from the front) of the machine.   This would last for several boot ups and then I would have to repeat it.

What looks like a Black A4000...... even a proto, is kinda just that, a proto. it is infact a development unit of the a 3500, which was converted to use AGA in a hurry, and shipped out.. I saw one of these at a computer show in melbourne in 1991
