Greetings!
« on: September 01, 2005, 06:08:18 AM »
Hi!

My name is Tero. I come from Finland and am all new to Amiga. I never owned one back in the 80's although a friend of mine had an A500. I jumped straight into PCs from C64 in 1989. I actually got excited about Amigas last spring and decided to get one. Now I have an Amiga 500 with 1 MB of memory, Kickstart 1.3 and A520 tv-modulator. I also have A Citizen RF332C external disk drive and an A590 hard disk controller with a 500 MB Quantum scsi HD and an addtitonal 2 MB of memory. I also have the usual mouse and joysticks and a bunch of floppies. The A590 requires some attention right now but when I get it up and running, I plan to try programming with basic and maybe even with Assembler.
A4000/040 3.1/3.1, 2 MB Chip, 24 MB Fast, Piccolo SD64 2MB, GVP A2000mHC+8 Rev2, 4 GB CF HD via CF IDE
A1200 3.1/3.9, Blizzard 1230MkIV 030@50 with SCSI kit, 2 MB Chip, 128 MB Fast, 1 GB CF HD via CF IDE
A600 3.1/3.1, 2 MB Chip, A603, 1GB CF HD via CF IDE

Hi!  If you need programming help, I'd suggest you either post your questions on the programming forum here or on http://utilitybase.com/.

If you want to program in Basic you might try downloading AmosPro from Back to the Roots and use that instead of AmigaBasic.  Amos is much more powerful than AmigaBasic and there's promise of a sequel for the PowerPC Amigas and PCs called Mattathias in the works that will let you recompile your Amos sources to run on the PC and newer Amigas.

@Protek: Greetings!

@SamuraiCrow: useful info regarding Mattathias, I'd not heard of this before. The original A.org news posting is here and it's also worth looking at the project's Sourceforge page.

@Ali

Unfortunately the Sourceforge page hasn't been updated in quite some time.  The AMOS Factory is the place to go for updates, which have been sparse lately because of my military commitments.  Right now I'm working 14 hours days keeping aircraft flying for the hurricane Katrina search and rescue effort.  There isn't too much extra time for programming, but I will be moving to a different unit soon and will then have some more time to code.  Thanks for the interest, it really does help motivate me when I see people who are interested in my program.

@Sidewinder:

Keep up the good AMOS-related work, the Katrina-related stuff is obviously of much higher importance... Have been watching events unfold on the TV and Internet, looks terrible and really feel for those poor people who've lost everything.

As for the looters... Grr....  :madashell:  :madashell:  Can't believe how low some people will go...

Anyway... I'm sure there are plenty of people interested in an AMOS-like easy to pick up language for both Amigas and PCs, especially given the source compatibility.

Regards,

P.S. You might like to know that the www.liquido2.com site is giving me an error of "Fatal error: Cannot redeclare unixdate() in /home/mpn/html/pnadodb/adodb.inc.php on line 1477".

@Ali

Thanks, I work on Mattathias whenever I get a chance.

In the past two days my unit has rescued over 300 people by helicopter.  It's just so hard to imagine!  Hopefully many, many more will be rescued.

I'll have to call my ISP to see what's going on with the AMOS Factory.  Thanks for letting me know.
