Just a question . . . i've used MiamiDX and its OK (slow but ok)

Just remember that Miami runs in 68k emulation and that depends on how fast your PPC is. There are huge difference between 603/160 and 604/233.

I hope AOS4 will be faster and better.

I would be suprised if its no faster because the WB is basicly the same as from 3.9 and dont have all that eyecandy things like in Ambient. But you can try Scalos or Magellan as replacment on MorphOS. Maybe its better than.

I've tried it on my old A1200 PowerUp&Bvision and no luck ....
My roms version is 3.0, and:

If I do a plain boot (no kickrom updates), I just get a black screen.

If I let the ROM being updated (booting AmigaOS3.9), I get
a "invalid number" message, startup failed return code 10.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

@ViD

Always use unpatched kickstart and if you are using Kickstart image make sure it is version 40.68 on A1200.

But black screen probably means BVision driver didnt start. Try using debugramdump (CD0:Boot directory) after failed MorphOS boot. Maybe it reveals something interesting.

 I understand what you say, but i don't think that this can explain the slow-down of the serial port i/o under MOS. Perhaps it does, i don't know.
 The fact is that the speed of the downloading gets halved with miami running under MOS. I experience a similar effect under AOS 3.9, when i try to play a movie with a WarpOS player while i download a file. If i try do the same with a 68k player, the downloading speed doesn't get affected much.
 Hmm.. i see a pattern here: Is it possible that the PowerPC CPU mess up the serial port transfers? Could this kind of problems be solved with the addition of a fast, buffered serial port like silver-surfer?

The fact is that you are using 68k serial.device :-) It seems PPC native serial.device is missing from PowerUp cd. Try with this (ripped off from PowerUp 0.4 archive).

 I have already tried this device. The MOS version of 8n1.device, too. They both make miami to idle forever at the message "connecting ppp level LCP please wait".

Ah, that is bad. Then there is not much to do I'm afraid. 68k serial is slow because JIT doesnt work in interrupts and interpretetive emulation on PowerUp cant beat real 68k.

@AmigaMance

i have me too a very long delay with

"connecting ppp level LCP please wait"

even 30 secs to 1 minute.

and i don't use the serial port. (MiamiDX-MNI driver-pppoe and XSurf2)

So my suggestion is . . . wait a little bit :-)

'startup failed return code 10' is most likely due to missing 68040.library/68060.library in (MOS):libs (libs/ on the partition you've installed MOS to).

Anyways, if not, the cause of the 'return code 10' ("Represents an error. In scripts a return code of 10 will abort the script, unless a higher limit has been set with the FAILAT command." Quote from the AmigaDOS user's guide from C=, page 4-3) can be figured out if you run 'startup' again from the CLI you get stuck in after the 'return code 10'. This is how I discovered that the 68040/68060 libs should be in MOS:libs

I don't get things like this, why should elbox support Morphos?
the morphos developers have everything they need to make
drivers and other supporting of the mediator...

Frank Mariak was one of the first people on this planet to
get a full mediator developer machine, developer docs etc.
to make drivers for mediator (so he/they should have had no trouble
whatsoever to support the mediator in morphos, if they state otherwise
they are totally wrong).

and considering that OS4 apparently doesn't have any trouble
supporting the mediator on classic amigas... the only conclusion
one can make is... the OS4 developers are better coders.

@Framiga
 Hi. No, that didn't solve the problem. I've tried with genesis MUI, too. I just can't connect using the MOS version of serial.device... :(
 And since i CAN connect using the 68k serial.device or the build-in device of miami (with an unacceptable speed, of course), i'm forced to say that there must be a bug in the serial.device of MorphOS.
 Is there another MOS native device that i could try?
 Am i the only one having this particular problem?

Are you been able to start Genesis MUI?

Can you tell me how? wich version?

I would like to use Genesis insyead of MiamiDX but i'm not able to see
it even start :-(

I've downloaded gendemo from Aminet with its GenesisMUI, copied the
classes (the ones not present in MOS) and genesis.key in SYS:Libs
(tryed both the AO3.9 one and the other) . . . nada. SnoopDos doesn't
help me, this time.

Any suggestion?

ah . . . i have a Xsurf2 with its xsurf.device . . . i've heard that
thers problems with some 68k devices . . .could be this?

@Framiga
I'm using the same version of genesis with you and i had some problems problem at the beginning, too. I don't remember exactly how did i fix it but i surely did it by using snoopdos. Iirc, i copied the resource.library to mossys:libs/ and the term.mcc to mossys:classes/mui/ or something.

 I already know that there is a problem with 68k serial devices. It's because they have to be emulated and that makes them slow.
 The problem is that i can not use the MOS version of serial.device. From miami or genesis.

@All classic users with a serial modem
 Does anyone else in this forum have the same problem? Or even, Does anyone with a simiral setup is able to use the MOS native serial.device? It's the 3rd time that i'm asking this question. What the heck?....

Thanks AmigaMance :-)

but i'm not able to see it working.

Snoopdos, find all the MUI classes, but it stops to a xxx.gadgets.

Nothing else . . . nothing :-(

Tryed even your suggestion

assign LIBS: "AmigaOS3.x partition":Classes ADD
