IM BACK!
« on: August 21, 2005, 08:40:02 AM »
I had an Amiga 500 around 1986-7 and sold it to help pay for college around 1996, where I was forcefed Wintel garbage. Anyway I just got an A600 and A2000 with a load of extras for $200. Haven't even had a chance to look at it yet.

I had actually lost track of what happened to Amiga until I heard about this stuff being for sale. So while searching the interenet looking for info I found you guys.

My #1 question is: What is the cheapest/best/fastest way to add my new toys to my network? I have wired and wireless ethernet. I would like to surf the internet some with these guys.

#2 question: Is this possible or are they just to slow?

I am sure some of this is answered and I will go back and search now. Anyways thanks.

Welcome to the show.

Lot has happened since the death of C=, you can find many threads about it. Unfortunatly it has been rather ugly.

You may want to check out amigakit who has some stuff for sale.

Notice that most network cards don't work as they are PCI cards and not ZorroII only the X-SURF... There are expansions for the Amiga that gives your Amiga PCI slots. Not sure if there's one for the A2000 tho.

Welcome to Amiga.org!

Congratulations on your purchase. You will find that Amiga.org is the best source of information for your 'classic' Amigas out there.
As for your queries:
1) You could get a new X-Surf 3 ethernet card made by Individual Computers or search EBay for any used Zorro-based Ethernet card. Try searching the Big Book of Amiga Hardware for all cards ever made for Amiga and find out what you need. This is an excellent source for all Amiga hardware related questions. Amiga Hardware Database is very similar, so check that out too.

2) I have a HydraNet ethernet card and it yields 60k cps. Again, check the hardware sites I gave you.

Be sure to use the 'Search' function of this site. So many threads on this topic exist, it's mind boggling.

Enjoy!

Hello and Welcome!

It's sad to say but anything less than a 68020 might not do much good with networking.  I'm not positive but I think the TCP stacks available require a 68020 or better.  I know that AmigaOS 3.9 requires a 68020 so you'll have to find an accelerator board for those classic Amigas you have or else buy an A1200.  It's easier to find good expansions for the AGA chipset Amigas since they're newer.
