Dragon confusion
« on: August 12, 2005, 11:18:22 AM »
Is anyone confused about the Dragon Coldfire or is it just me?
Are there two cards, mainboard/cpu or is it all the same?

As far as I got from the press release, there is the DRAGON MOBO and the DRAGON CPU card wich can be upgraded (they say...). The price includes the Mobo and the cpu card.

The photos aren't exactly revealing are they? Seems very suss to me.. I wish they'd tell us what is going on one way or the other, I have an a1200 sitting right here just waiting to towerize.

The cynic in me is saying they aren't going to release it at all - and are just dragging it out so they can sell more of their (undoubtedly high margin) desktop cases.

Oki, it is kind of hard to see on the photos but if it is like you say it will not matter much... If the price stays the same..

Yes I know what you mean but I do not think that is the "case"... They named the case D-Box for a reason didn´t they? They have written several times that this case is special made for Dragon Coldfire...I am certain it will come...

so, i can't say anything (like you all) if and when the Dragon will be available for us.

But looking at the board (at least what that seems an advanced prototype if not a pre-production board) i think that Elbox has intention to release something.

When? . . . no idea.

I totally agree with Framiga.

They didn't come this far to abort the project...

I agree, we don´t know... but we see all the signs, we have photos, advertising.... The relese of D-BOX is a great way to get our attention, no doubt about it.

I will probably buy one Dragon and one AmigaONE, because it´s the right thing to do and because.... I want to! :)

About the CF.

They must be stuck somewhere, cause it doesnt make sense not to release something they seem to already have developed ( judging from the pics of the dragon).

My take is that either they are developing the "missing 68k commands emulation layer" or that the dragon coldfire is not complete (most of the pics dont show the dragon as a whole, just a part of it).
Anyway is the only way

I still am highly sceptical about the existence of the dragon (as an Amiga accelerator). Ever wondered why there is no "full body" shot of the card, just a little close up here an there ? Maybe they learned from the sharkdesaster where it only took a few weeks for someone to find out that the shown card was only a rebadged Sonnet MAC-Accelerator (by the way we are still waiting).
The spider was only a standard PCI card with an altered ROM to dongle it, so no one buy the card fo 9.99 EUR at a PC-store.

What makes you think they actually made something new with the dragon ? Im sure there are industry PCI-cards with a coldfire on it (like there were one with an 68040 for the VME-bus). The tricky part is to write software that make this standardcard run in an Amiga and there I have some doubts that Elbox can come up with something decent. You know it`s a little bit more complicated then the ROM for a mouseadapter.
They had plenty of time now to make the Shark run with OS4, but I forgot it should magically run straight out of the box, so no work is neccesary. Well if that is so why not sell it yet and make money eh ?
Not really interesting, but it`s there.
