Fair Price List?
« on: August 10, 2005, 07:45:04 PM »
Hello all, I was wondering if there is a list of fair prices for popular amiga hardware? I'm interesting in a blizzard '030 or '060 board and want to know what a good price for it is. I figured it would be nice for people to know what something is worth in todays market without making the mistake of spending $400 for a '060 bliz with 16m ram not knowing it's only worth like $250, for example.

Thanks! :)

Good idea for sellers, bad for buyers. IRL this has resulted in higher prices for customers when all prises are "fair price and up" and thus it's been outlawed in some countrys. And who's to set the price tag?

Do a bit more research before you buy something and ask around if you're unsire and you won't be fooled and if you're lucky the seller hasn't done his homework and you'll get it for peanuts. :)

A B1230 is anywhere from 30-110€ (or more if looking at inzane ebayers) where I think a fair price is about 50-75€ if it's a MK4... MK1&2 is 20€ less and MK3 is 10€ less.

A B1260 is hard to come by... Ranges from anywhere between 120€-250€ (or more if looking at inzane ebayers) where I think a fair price is about 160-200€.

0-16Mb on the card is nothing extra, 32Mb is +5€, 64Mb is +10€, and 128Mb is +25€.

Thing is, too, it varies greatly by region.  In the US, a Blizzard 1230 will easily go $75-100 without RAM, while in Europe, they'd consider that insane, and swap someone a few beers for one.

On the other hand, I can barely get $100 for an A3000, which in Europe, they'd jump on it at nearly twice that price.

Regional scarcity plays a huge role in pricing.

Nice idea, but impractical, as previous posters have pointed out. If you're a seller, perhaps getting rid of something reluctantly, in order to pay the rent, you would understandably want the best price you can get for something.
Of course, if you're a buyer looking out for something, it can be frustrating that the price is always so high.

I will never forget someone posted an advert on Amibench..
"Wanted: Picasso IV graphics card. Will pay £60, in line with what they go for on this board."
I bet he got a load of abusive emails! Basically, someone had sold one the week before for £60. Hardly a market indicator! Imagine going into a restaurant and saying 'I heard that one day, someone got a free lunch, therefore I demand that you give me a free lunch'
I like Amigas

i think old amiga parts sell at retarded prises. Think about old car parts for instance they dont even come close to half the prize they did cost when they were new. O and some people here might say "but its hard to get" well still some of the stuff is over 10 years old and sell for $$$$ a bit lame if you ask me. In one year i have payed over 1400£ for various amiga 1200 parts and computers thats a bit much is it not but hey its a cool hobby but hardly worth that much.

I think that was me :-o , anyway I bought a PIV for that amount, high price, but for me it was really worth it.

The prices for good amiga HW is all around the scale, to bad, but theese things is getting pretty hard to come by theese days, at least in the more remote areas of the globe, but you can also be lucky (my A4k was mine for about $60).

Now, I hope to get a cheap PPC board somewhere to replace my trusty old CSMKII060, I'm out of money..., but the spirit lives!

@ Cyberus

You forgot to mention the 150% price mark up for the famous "In Box" feature with Amiga hardware!

@adonay
I disagree, old car parts can fail much faster than old electronics, because of strain. Many people want old Amiga parts and are willing to pay for them more and more, so the prices can only go up, especialy because NO NEW parts are being made and old ones are slowly dying.
But if you look hard enough, I think that you can still find a great deal. If you cannot find anything in your town, look in Germany or UK, many Amigas were sold there. Post WTB in some forums that are not directly Amiga related (yeah, spam a little) because many ppl havent used their PIV 060 A4K in many many years and don't know how much they are worth. Also, you should try some TV stations, they used a lot of expanded Amigas.

Fair is such a subjective concept; it is in the eye of the beholder.
