Need TCP/IP Stack
« on: March 19, 2003, 11:06:12 PM »
Where can I download a free TCP/IP Stack

I just unpacked my Amiga 1200 from not using it for 4 years and I want to start using it again. I have been way out of the loop. I want to use it to surf on the net  ( I need to prove to my wife that I do not have to throw it out.   :-? )

Your best bet would be to buy OS3.9 which comes with a full featured TCP/IP stack. Otherwise thereare some freebies on Aminet like:
http://uk.aminet.net/~aminet/dirs/aminet/comm/tcp/AmigaTCP.lha

Any of the freebies will likely be difficult to set up. Avoid Miami.

Demo versions of Miami and Genesis are both available thru Aminet.  The US site is down as I post this but the German site is up.  Look in the comm/tcp directory (http://de.aminet.net/aminet/dirs/comm_tcp.html).

Both are time-limited demos - they'll go offline after 30 minutes but will allow you to dial in again immediately.

:-? Why not use Miami's excellent setup tool to configure your setup almost automatically, then copy the configuration details into another TCP/IP stack, and then use that?

I guess its all about Opinion, but you cant go wrong with Miami or MiamiDX its so simple to use and has tonnes of extra features if your experience with LANS and NAT translations etc.
Simple to Setup, works with cable modems unlike Genesis (OS3.9) which has real problems with DHCP.

If you are using an external modem

Download and install the Miami Demo

http://www.nordicglobal.com/swdl.html#Miami

You can buy / reg Miami from

www.weirdscience.co.uk in leicester if i remember.

(Requires MUI) to be installed first if i remember.

http://ftp.plig.org/pub/aminet/util/libs/mui38usr.lha

Select Built in serial driver
Enter the phone number of your ISP
Enter your Login
Enter your Password

Save Config Job Done

Get a demo of Ibrowse from

I use Miami DX which can be found on Aminet. It comes with a "guide" (think MS Windows ;-)) which makes it *very* easy to set up the network connection. Unfortunately it is a demoversion and there is no way to register it. The unregistered demo version has a lot of the "DX (de luxe)" features made unavailable, and it disconnect you after 30 minutes or so. :-( But that is the only major flaw I see with that solution.

Dammit, you gotta make it clear who is in charge over the Amiga issues at your home. THROW IT OUT?! These are SERIOUS matters! ! :-D  :-D  :-D
