« on: August 02, 2005, 02:47:01 AM »

He probably doesn't have a power supply.  It looks in decent enough shape :)

Guess thats the risk you have to take with eBay, the only thing that would concern me is that the A600 isn't as easy to fix if something is wrong. I must admit though, the A600 is a funky bit'o'kit and I would love to have one :-)

Not too shabby and even fairly close to home...

As far as your gamble goes, I'd say you have a 50/50 chance! :-)

Best of luck and hope it works out for you, I have an A600HD and it is very neat to own just because it looks cool sitting on your desk!

yea, he said it doesnt have a PSU.  I'm hoping if anything is bad, the hd...cause I have a replacement.   One thing that will be cool is I could get a PCMCIA networking card (which I have) and can install the software and have a Amiga on the net!!  Maybe even wireless pcmcia? that would be cool.

Dude, wouldn't you be better off with an A1200 for the Inet at the minimum?

The A600 works on the web... but it's pretty painful! (And that's with an '030 accelerator and 32MB RAM... I highly doubt that you'd enjoy using a lower spec machine).

It should be fine for mail, news, IRC, etc. though...

A little bit expensive at £30 ($55) as they usually go tested and working for £10 ($18).

"But it's an A600HD oooh.."

So what? You can (could) get the A600HD badges from Vesalia for £2 ($4) and "transform" any A600 into a HD.

If it's got 2Mbytes of ChipRAM it might be a good deal.

I think this has been said many times before. But A600s and A1200s are not as common in US as they are in Europe. I beleive there were far more 'big-box' Amigas sold in N. America. Hence big-boxers are cheaper there, whereas A1200/A600s are more expensive.
I like Amigas

you need to find a viper 630 or apollo 630 to do that first and they are really *really* very rare. I've been constanly looking for them on e-bay for 6 months, and never came across one.
I believe in mt. Fuji

There's no problem using a stock A600 on a local LAN.  You'll want to get the extra 1M of CHIP RAM though.  Even smaller stacks like AmiTCP 4.0 demo (I haven't switched to the 3.0b2 yet) take a fair bit of memory.

I typically just run the stack and Amiga Explorer.  But, I've run an old version of Lynx and ncftp.  I've also seen an old version of AMossaic that should run, but will probably be painfull.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

OMG!!!!

Guess what???  IT WORKS!!!!  I am SO happy like you could not believe.  I drove up to Austin, met the dude and picked it up.  When it boots it has some intro on it as if it was used for a business.  I will make a mpeg vid and put it up for upload or just take pics so you'all can see.. More then likely tomorrow I will get either/or the vid and pics up.   Its 11pm..but thats ok, I'm off on weekends so I get to stay up late playing around with this.
