No problem, I had no intentions of listening to him.  I just figured we could all use a good laugh.  His now private ebay feedback speaks volumes about him.

The free Amiga 3000 was posted on a forum along with some other stuff, all listed free, just pay shipping.  I ended up snagging the A3000 (which has 2MB chip + 4MB Fast), and a CDTV with 2 remotes.

:D

This Doomey bloke is a real moron.

He's more interested in slandering people other than helping them and the advice he gives is just garbage.
People who buy a 3000 may not even have another AMIGA to format anything, oh why am I bothering! that guy is beyond a joke, someone should stop him. People who are serious about amiga info need to know where to go for help and this nufty keeps them away from it.

I'd like to shove a computer  ...........

I'm really sorry all. That just jerked my chain.

Formatting AMIGA HD's is really very simple, you don't even need a large HDD as most AMIGA programs are quite small thanks in large to the OS and structure. Yes, you can use big disks with an AMIGA, it can be a little fiddly, perhaps Wayne can pop up a Trouble Shooting AMIGA link on his page with fixes for various problems, I'm sure all of us would be willing to donate a small bit to help him with his time.

This is the simplest and probably cheapest way to set up your HDD.

Grab an old cheap 500MB hdd. You could probably get them for under $10 . Pop in your workbench disks and use HDtoolbox to set it up, format and whatever.

I say this because
A) It's a good idea to leave your OS drive alone and not decorate it with all sorts of guff.
B) It save all the heartache if something goes wrong, easier to recover etc etc...
C) you can then whap on a drive as big as you like on to the  cable along with it.

No need to worry about DMA and access times etc etc as the Miggi can't do the DMA transfers and will use PIO regardless so the HDD speed shouldn't be affected by the older IDE.

As for SCSI, same goes.
I quite happily run my OS all the libs etc on a 340MB SCSI and I have a nice 30Gig drive for all my movies apps etc.

More than once I have had to recover my OS drive and every time I was thankful I had an easy way to do it as it was all OS complient.
Yes , if you really have to have just that one big drive you can fiddle with scsi.device and patches to get it working, you'll need OS 3.1 from memory to do it and even then, it's still a little fiddly.
There are plenty of posts here that can help you if you go looking.

Best of luck to ya. Someone kill doom. I used to love that game, now I wish I could frag him. Maybe there's a way to render a monster with his head on it.

It's not the question, that is the problem, it is the problem, that is the question.

Anyone else feel like signing Doomy up for some pr0n?  I've got some more nice unsolicitated email from the {bleep}.  I love how you're supposed to take anyone seriously while they're cussing at you in email.  There's obviously some confusion on his part, the A3000 is up and running just great.

Hey you stupid {bleep}, if you would have done what I told you to do in the first place, instead of bad mouthing me on Amiga Org, your Amiga 3000 computer would be up and running by now.  I tried to help you and I even offered to mail you the disks you need, but you had to be a red neck asshole about it.  As I told you, most of the people on Amiga Org do not know what they are talking about when it comes to the Amiga computer.  The only other person besides myself that does know a lot about the Amiga computers is TJLazer from Tacoma, Washington.  He owns just about every type of Amiga and Atari ST computer ever made and so do I.  In fact, I did actually work for Commodore.  I have been playing video games since PONG and I have been working with computers since 1982.  So yes, I do know a lot about them and you would be wise to listen to what I have to say.  Now, SHUT YOUR STUPID MOUTH AND JUST MAYBE YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING!  One more time, if you want to get a hard drive to work
on an Amiga 3000 that has the Kickstart 1.4 (Boot Strap) ROMs, you MUST do the following:

1 - Use another Amiga to format and partition the hard disk.  The Device Name MUST be WB_2.x

2 - Install Workbench 2.04 or 2.1 and copy an Amiga 3000 Kickstart Image file to the Devs directory

3 - Now mount this hard drive into your Amiga 3000 and it should work just fine.

4 - Install the rest of your Amiga software as you normally would.

ALL \"Boot Strap\" Amiga 3000 Kickstart ROMs are version 1.4.  Later Amiga 3000s were released with the real Kickstart 2.04 ROMs.  The Kickstart 3.1 ROMs for the Amiga 3000 were only available as an option.

Please note, you can also use the Super Kickstart disk to format the hard drive, but the above method works better and is much more reliable.  I have an Amiga 2000 in my shop that I use for prepping and formatting hard drives that go into my customers Amiga 3000 computers.

Next time, before you talk {bleep} about me, you had better do your {bleep}ing homework, you little piece of {bleep}!

Sincerely,
The DoomMaster

Thanks for your email.  All future emails from you will be ignored, and placed nicely in my spam/kill file.  And while you're at it, go {bleep} yourself.
