Looking for Amiga stuff

Just got myself an Amiga 3000 (for free! .  Surprisingly, it works.  Now I'm looking for some parts:

Any non-coax Ethernet card.  10BT is fine, I just need something to transfer files to this things.

A 1-4GB SCSI drive, 50 pin.  The 50MB drive just isn't going to cut it for long

An external SCSI CDROM drive.

Anyone have something like this lying around?

I found most of such stuff at the local computerrecycling center.

E-Bay is also a possiblity, but mostly overpriced.

I've got an external SCSI 1X caddy CD-ROM that might work with an Amiga (I'll check tonight), I've probably got an appropriate SCSI hard drive too.

Do you have anything you'd be willing to trade for these?

You can get a brand new X-Surf3 ethernet 10Mbit twisted-pair for about 100$

I'll admit I don't have anything to trade since I normally deal with old console games/accessories when it comes to trades.

I'm up for paying cash though if it's reasonable.

I've *removed* the battery as it was starting to leak, but hadn't gotten to the motherboard yet.  I'll add a replacement later  

I might pick up a A2065 card w/RJ45 or an Amiganet card since I found both for fairly cheap (around $50).  The Xsurf is about 135 at Softhut and that's just too much for an ethernet card.

Other A3000 questions while I'm at it:

The kickstart appears to be on the HD instead of a ROM chip.  
How do you upgrade something like this to 3.1?  Should I just softkick it?

Got the HD from Ebay for a whopping dollar 4.3GB should be enough.

Even if it's being softkicked there still is going to be a physical kickstart ROM.  Probably best to just replace that.

If you still want the CD-ROM drive I'd be willing to take cash or a trade for some console game or accessory.  I've still got all my classic systems hooked up and collect more stuff when I get the chance.  It's probably not worth all that much.  Make me an offer.  I'll check to make sure it works okay before I go to bed tonight.

You'll have problems unless you stay under 4 gig on the HD
unless you use another file system (not FastFile System).
(I've not had any luck trying to use just the first
4 gigs on a larger HD)

Also you have the Softkick (ver 37.xx roms), you can
softkick the 3.1 rom file if you can find the correct
file (I used to have it but I lost it in a HD crash).
It will require the kick file with the bonus code.
Not just any kick file will work, it has to be that one.
And you can't use an accelerator with those roms.

I plan on formatting it with 1GB partitions like I do my A1200.  BTW, how can I tell if I have the real kickstart ROMs or a file?  The motherboard seems too new to have softkick files but when it boots it states on a yellow text on blue screen that it's kicking 2.1 and rebooting.

@icbrkr : about that Xsurf again, it´s not just an ordinary network card but also includes an IDE controller and an expansion port for Individual Computers parts like a serial port or so. On Ebay you are supposed to find those cards for 80 USD ...

Effy: I know, I just don't think I'm up to that point yet  I just want to transfer some files over to the Amiga.  We'll see how serious I am about the system later.

The stupid {bleep}s on Amiga Org will not be able to help you with your Amiga 3000 problems, but I can.  I own 2 Amiga 3000 computers and they work great.  It sounds like you have one of the old Amiga 3000s which has the Kickstart 1.4 Bootstrap ROMs on a \"ROM-Tower\".  In order to get this Amiga 3000 to work, you must do the following:

1 - Use another Amiga computer to format the hard drive.  The device name MUST be WB_2.x

2 - Next, install Workbench and copy an Amiga 3000 Kickstart Image file to the Devs directory

3 - Now, take this hard drive and put it into your Amiga 3000 computer.  It should work just fine.

You can also buy and install a set of Amiga 3000 Kickstart 3.1 ROMs, but be prepared to spend between $50 to $100 for them.  If you need the Amiga 3000 Kickstart Image file and the Amiga 3000 Super Kickstart disk, I would be willing to trade them to you for your Sega Genisis Phantasy Star III cartridge.

I don't think any A3000 ever shipped with 1.4 roms.
To my knowledge they either shipped with OS 2.xx or
the softkick OS 37.xx roms (my A3000 came with 37.xx roms).
(Hmmm is the ver 37.xx roms actually KS 1.4 ? )
You can listen to Doomy if you want but I think it would
be a mistake. Most of the info you get here on the Org is
very reliable.

If you don't have the SuperKickStart disk I can EMail
you a DMS copy of it.
