PCMCIA wireless NIC problem
« on: July 11, 2005, 03:22:46 PM »
I'm trying to set up a PCMCIA wireless NIC and I've run into a little snag. Miami doesn't seem to recognise the card. When I run the MiamiInit program and try setting the SANAII device name to networks/prism2.device it says that it can't find the device and maybe it's in use. This drawer and device definitely exist in the Devs directory of my Workbench and I'm typing in the name correctly. Is there anything immediately obvious I could be doing wrong?

Are you familiar with the PCMCIA reset problem? If you don't have CardReset in your startup-sequence, you'll have to wait for the Amiga to boot before inserting the card.

Yeah I'm familiar with it. I have cardreset and cardpatch launching in my s:user-startup file. It wouldn't really matter though because I booted the Amiga with the card already in the slot.

What kind of card is it? Are you sure it's compatible? It's possible as well that the driver doesn't have the product IDs for every compatible card.

@redneon:

It's only when you boot the Amiga with the card already inserted that the bug occurs - the card wont be reset. This is what CardReset fixes. If you insert the card while the Amiga is on, it will always be reset, disregarding if you have run CardPatch or CardReset.

Problem solved. It was a bent pin on the PCMCIA port. It's fixed now and I'm enjoying wireless goodness.

Thanks for everyone's help.
