Selling off Amiga Stuff (Picasso IV, Emplant + Fusion)
« on: July 06, 2005, 06:56:10 PM »
All,

I am finally selling off more of my excess AMIGA stuff that I no longer use.  If no one here is interested, I intend to place the following on Ebay:

1. Picasso IV card - card only. This is a working pull from my old A3000 system. I am the original owner. I no longer have the box and cannot find the documentation but I am looking for it and will include it if found.

2. Emplant Deluxe with Fusion software - I purchased this setup off of Ebay last year from a Canadian dealer and just have no interest in using or keeping it.  Card, Fusion software, documentation included.

All items work / have worked for me until pulled but due to age of the equipment (and the fact that it is "used") and the possibility of damage during shipment, I am selling the items "as is" and strongly encourage to buy insurance if available. I will only ship via US Mail and accept payment via PayPal.

I am willing to sell to someone here on AMIGA.org before posting to Ebay so if you have a reasonable offer, send me an email. If not, these items will be on Ebay by Friday (GMT -6).

Regards,
Ltstanfo

1. The prices are up to you. What do you think is fair?
2. Shipping costs will be per US Mail website to the country in which you live.

3. I will only accept PayPal for the sale of this equipment.

Cyberus : I am not interested in buying a Picasso IV. It´s just that when somebody offers something that the first logical question is how much he wants for it. If I didn´t ask that question then it might as well have been you who wanted to know the price, not ??? I´m not that loaded with money that I could afford a P IV

It would be nice to know how much he has in mind?
I could offer him $10 and he would have been offended. It's like saying how much is it worth.

Just an update for everyone...

I have listed both the Picasso IV and Emplant / Fusion systems on eBay.

As to asking price and / or offending me, there was no problem.  I understand that as a buyer, you don't want to pay more then you think you should.  Obviously as a seller, I want the item to go for as much as it can.  One guy on this site actually made me an offer that was close to what I was looking for but I didn't check my AO email before posting to eBay.  In any event, thanks for the interest.

Ltstanfo

Fact is, I'd really like to know what an Emplant board is really worth. I remember the ads sporting a rather hefty price, like around 150€... Anyway. I have one from a 2d hand A4000, I don't think it includes the infamous 586 module, and, just like the many pics I've seen of it, there are a lot of empty ROM slots.

Where would you put this 586 module, by the way ? I suppose taht it's a daughterboard module..? Any URL ?
I don't know the rev. of the card, as I don't have it w/ me now.

In fact, if I only had this 586 module, and a little more information (when was that J. Drew mail written ?) , I'd try the damn thing before even thinking about selling it. Not that I can think of *any* 16bit windows 3.1 software that I'd like to run now, but that said, some games...And the whole emulation thing is exciting, as I discovered in fiddling w/ UAE.

So what does this thing do, anyway ?

# Emulate a MAC for witch you have the ROM(s), OK (1)
# Emulate a PC (486DX, IIRC) providing that the right HW is present (I'd like (love) details, but I got the picture)
But :
# Does it have a SCSI controller ?
# Does it provides additional ports ?
# Can it host RAM ?
# Can any feature of this board be used by the Amiga side only ?

If not, and it appears that it can only do what SShifter can do w/o it, then I'll give it away, preferably exchange it for some minor Amiga thingy, like a Topolino (the small PS/2<=>DB9 adapt.) a SCART adapter, a spare CIA, a PGA FPU... Or a Cyberstorm. Yes, I *am* kidding.

I'd love to find a guy that really *wants* this piece of HW, so much that he's willing to patiently explain the whole Amiga-based emul shebang to me, and even trade a little extra something w/ me, not nessessarily even commercial - a homemade thing, or a StormC crash course would do, heck, an evening at the pub would do :-P - no cash involved, maybe a good occasion to see my friends in UK or elsewhere in the world as well (and improve my "proper" english), perfick.

I definitely don't want to put it on eBay, just because really this place is'nt for me, hard to explain but for me, commerce is *one* price for an item, and preferably the right price, that is already hard to define in the 1st place.

Note : That's not *at all* a judgement of ppl who do use it, my daughter does this all week long, and have made a few really good bargains. It's just that *I*, for one, just cannot do this.

(1) Can somebody confirm that it's impossible to emulate a Mac using a '060 CPU, I mean taking advantage of it ? I dunno where I read this, but this was printed several times.

I am not quite sure what your asking, but as far as 060 for
MAC emulation, it works quite well.  Both Fusion 3.1/3.2
and Shapeshifter 3.9 takes advantage of the speed increase
provided by the 060.  You can emulate classic <8.1 enviroments
faster than an original 040 mac would run.  These two pieces
of software are the reason why cards like the Fusion are fairly
useless for emulation.  Unless you need an extra SCSI controller
or native MAC serial ports, the emplant offers little advantage.
An emplant with the 586 module is certainly more desirable, but
I can't really comment on how effective the emulation programs
for it work.
