MUCH bigger news is the rejection of the EU software patent bill.

As you probably know, I'm a bit of a Francophile, but I do find it mildly amusing, above all else, 'cos its one in the eye for the Crazy Frog:

As someone said on the radio earlier, no matter what Chirac eats at the G8 summit (he insulted British food a few days earlier), it'll leave a bitter taste in his mouth...

In all seriousness, I'm really chuffed.
I'm sure there will be plenty of nay-sayers, but I think us Brits can be proud...:-)

AFAIK, host cities to the Olympics never write black numbers when the overall bill is due, so congratulations to London for being the most eager of the lot to lose a gigantic sum of money.
Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

I think Paris was the most eager... London is just the one stuck with the bill :-D

Yeah, they should spend the money much more prudently, like on the administration of the EU ;-)

Just watch as the council tax bill in London rockets prior to 2012 and then increases some more for good measure.

I'm in a neighbouring county to London (Essex), which may well play host to certain events and of course, bill it's residents accordingly.

Cynicism aside, I deliberately avoided any nose-thumbing in the direction of Paris.  I personally have nothing against France, but I was a little miffed at Mons. Chirac's comments about British cuisine - has he not eaten at a Greasy Spoon cafe before????

I sincerely hope he's served with pie 'n mash at the G8 summit, together with an excellent bottle of English wine.

:roflmao: @ the french..................

To paraphrase Monsieur Chirac "The only thing that France has given Europe is sour grapes"

I don't particularly want the Olympics over here, as I think it's a waste of money, but I am revelling in the fact that the people who wanted it most, *didn't* get it.

Of the recent summer olympics, only Athens has lost money.  I am guessing that London Olympics will make money and provide years of work for alot of people.
