PCMCIA Ram card for amiga 600/1200
« on: July 05, 2005, 03:52:53 PM »
I guess these are the only solution to get an amiga 600 more than 2mb ram right ?

http://amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=943
http://page7.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g33981716

is it possible to use ram card for another machine ? I found a 2mb pcmcia ram module for a cisco router but is there any chance that it may work with an amiga ?
I believe in mt. Fuji

One of these will probably work, but it's probably best to hold out until a 4MB card turns up.

An ebay search for "pcmcia sram" usually turns up compatible cards.

Cisco routers use Flash memory.  You need to find SRAM or PSRAM.  I believe old Apple Newton's, Psions, etc. used SRAM, as well as things like music keyboards, samplers, etc.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I think Tools/PrepCard only supports 2MB SRAM cards.

These are 100-250ns volatile RAM cards with a 3v button battery as
backup. If the battery dies so does the data.

There is one in particular that seems good for Amiga PCMCIA Mode-1
slots and that is the Mitsubishi Melcard 2MB.

I emphasise PCMCIA-1 as it is an older standard than most modern
laptop memory cards come in and will have a different pin quantity and
layout.

A good alternative is to follow instructions on Aminet on how to use
PCMCIA flash card readers. I think they may be SCSI based and allow
reading of Compact Flash and all those little cards, as well as
PCMCIA-2 and PCMCIA-3 cards (even IBM Microdrives).

You could even rig up a Spider USB to the internal clockport and have
some sort of external door for USB memory pens!

:-)

So one of these might work, though it´s only 1 Mb PCMCIA SRAM Memory Card, Simple Technologies ...
