Looks like Sponge.com is down. I got the news originally from bluesnews.com with a link to Sponge. The link worked about 3am .

I wonder how their business plan works. Are there really that many retro folks, who would buy an new old game for their retro machine? And, will they be releasing stuff individually or as a package? If individually, the sales numbers drop off from the number of total buying retro folks because not everyone wants EVERY game.

I think it would be snazzy if they came up with a fakey disk device that acts like a floppy disk, but is connected to a solid state device with the old game software on it. That way you can use your old floppy drive on your old machine without having to release floppy disks.

Alten8 Announces Deal With Cronosoft - 29th June 2005

Retro 'purists' will smile with glee at Alten8.com's latest announcement - to allow its back catalogue of classic games to be published by Cronosoft on tape and disk for the real classic machines. This deal vastly extends the current number of titles available on machines such as the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amiga, and whilst many will be re-releases, there will be some new and unreleased titles also available. Paul Andrews, head of the Alten8 Ltd group, said "We have a passion for retro gaming, and feel that our games shouldn't just be available on emulators, but on the real deal too. We're delighted to be working with Cronosoft to make this a reality." Head honcho of Cronosoft Simon Ullyatt also commented "It's great to publish games as they were intended to be released, on cassette tape or disc. Emulators are great, but you just can't beat the feel of a real machine."

Taken from their website www.alten8.com

The interesting part for me is that it seems like they might release some new or unreleased games as well.
