It isn't a MIDI interface because a MIDI cable has 5 pins not 7.

It could be a BTX decoder, some kind of online teletext used in Germany? See The Big Book of Amiga Hardware.

Couldn't it be a serial null modem cable Amiga -> C=64?

Adapter is needed when you want it to use it on an A1000.

So I guess Odin's right being it a midi cable, because the audio in/out on the serial cable (or was it the parallel?) was different on the A1000

Heh - Isn't the phrase "adapter notig" (with the umlaut in the right place, naturally) really funny? It's even better when people keep repeating it! Keep it going, guys! ;-)

(Sarcasm:off... I assume that this is actually an "adapter notig" and that if you can speak/understand/translate German then you'd understand what it's all about...)

@Speelgoedmannetje

It's definitely not a MIDI interface because it's physically impossible to connect MIDI gear to that cable. I should know, I've got lots of MIDI stuff connected to my A4k.

MIDI cable layout:

25-pin Female means that it is definately for the Amiga Serial port.

Are you sure it's 25-pin and not 23-pin?

The 7-pin din plug looks unusual to me, hmm... looking at it it appears as though all 7 pins are inline (i.e. form the edge of a part of a circle)

AFAIK there is no 7-pin din plug with all 7 on the edge of a circle. 7-pin din plugs have 6 in a circle and one in the center.

8-pin din plugs have 7 in a circle and one in the center, are you sure there isnt a broken pin in the center or something?

If it really is 7 in a circle then it's a custom plug.

In the unlikely event it's actually an 8-pin Din to 23-pin D then it could be a monitor adapter for the philips CM8833 monitor.

Due to the fact that an adapter is required for use with an A1000, i give you this quote from amiga-hardware.com: "Another peculiarity are the serial and parallel ports. All other Amigas have 25pin FEMALE parallel ports, and 25pin MALE serial ports, whilst the A1000 has a 25pin MALE parallel port and a 25pin FEMALE serial port. Consequently extreme care must be taken to ensure that any expansions plugged into these ports, are infact plugged into the correct port, with an appropriate adaptor if necessary."
This means that it's meant to go in the serial port, and most likely is indeed the BTX-cable. Perhaps the owner has the BTX box as well?
