A2000 PROBLEM?
« on: June 25, 2005, 10:08:53 AM »
HI I have an a2000 with 8meg ram on the scsi card and 1meg chip ram .My problem is I have no trouble running games from floppy or the harddrive. But when I try to run applications I keep getting an error and the program either freezes or the red software error pops up the machine reboots. This happens with whdload and I tried to install wordsworth which requires 4meg ram and wb3.1 or greater which I have, but neither will run.Could it be that it isnt accesing the fast ram although it shows up on the workbench screen or a problem withe fat agnus chip which controls the ram access (I THINK?).I ran sys check and the fat agnus is ECS and the denise chip is standard do they both have to be of the same chipset. Thanks any ideas would be appreciated regards nahoo7

What kind card is it (what manufacturer) ??
I have a Supra SCSI card with 8 megs that require
extra power to be supplied to the card, and the
ram is still unstable.

well, why don't you use memcheck programs from aminet to be sure? There are a lot of them (all free), MemTest.lha is good.

delete all your :libs files and reinstall

see if that fixes your problems
I had to do that once under KS2.04 when I upgraded to WorkBench2.1  something in the libraries got corrupted and deleting all the libs and reinstalling them fixed the problem

have fun :-)
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example

My guess is power.... the ram chips are probably good
or he would get a Red screen on bootup. So I would say the
ram chips test good on boot but when using the ram it
draws more power and will flake out.
The SCSI/RAM card I have has 2 extra power input plugs
and it NEEDS the extras power. Without the extra power
it will boot but when I try to do anything the machine
will crash.

I bought a 2000 not too long ago, and it had 2.1 installed with a tonne of software and stuff.  I tried to install WHDLoad, and if I tried to run a game, it just would not load at all, WHDLoad would freeze on the registration reminder screen (must do that soon).  Well, I gave up on it for a while, and just used JST installers which worked alright, but I ended up formatting it completely, reinstalling 2.1, and it worked perfectly, turned out it was a program that was running causing the problems.  If you haven't already actually reformatted, but rather just reinstalled, I would suggest doing that.  The other thing is, what version roms are you running?  3.1?  Are you softkicking at all, and what programs are you running in the background (magicwb, new icons, miami, that sort of thing.)?
