AmigaExplorer using TCP stack
« on: June 23, 2005, 09:53:33 PM »
Hi All,
Can I buy a LAN PC card and use it for my PC to AMIGA connectivities?

My current SERIAL solution is PAINFULLY slow.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks again!
Kind Regards,
CodeHunter

Yes, you can use AmigaExplorer with TCP/IP.  To do this, you'll need a Network Interface Card, and a TCP/IP stack.

I forget, but I think you had the A600.  If so, your best bet is an old version of AmiTCP (demo available on Aminet).  I use a Kingston KNEPC2T PCMCIA NIC with Harry's CNET.DEVICE.  You can also get a driver for some 3Com cards.

It'll be a bit faster than serial, but still rather slow.

If you buy a NIC, make sure to get a 16bit PCMCIA not 32bit CardBus.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

BTW, another faster option is to use your Amiga HD in your PC with WinUAE.  I setup my latest A1200 HD using this.  It made transfering stuff from the old HD a snap.  It is very easy to get the complete system setup, all files transfered, etc.

You mean I can physically remove A600HD's hard drive unit and install it on my PC and transfer files there?

Don't I require a special IDE cable for this purpose?

Thanks!

This is what adolescent was talking about. It'll only require opening both Amiga and PC again. It is quicker!

I wish someone would help me figure out how to speed up the transfer rate beteen my A600HD and PC. It is very slow, a 880K  floppy images take anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes. :(

On aminet there is a set of programs PC2AM308.LHA which allows you to access the PC's drives from the Amiga via parallel cable. It's seems to run about 20KB/s so at least it is faster than serial or floppy.

Is the A600's harddrive a 2.5" IDE? You can get an adaptor to use those drives in a regular PC for only a few bucks (compgeeks.com has 'em I think)
