Never trust the government to do ONLY what they should.  Stories like this are getting pretty damned scary to me...

Time to move to Canada.

It's a matter of being swamped with these type stories. How many similar stories do we read before we start to believe it?   I'm already not happy with the way America is changing (rapidly) as it is.

I was suspicious when the guy wrote "PIC (Programmable Interrupt Controller)" when describing the PIC Microcontroler and he claims to be an EE by trade... hmmm

Yes, it's likely a fake.  But don't believe everything you read on Snopes.  The site has at least one big credibility issue of it's own that the owner refuses to correct.

Given the way the US has gone to hell since 2001, things like this aren't a shock.  Some people suspect that more of these red herrings are being thrown out there so that we become used to dismissing them.  This way, when the shiat really hits the fan, we'll dismiss even the stories that are valid.  Damn clever, these neocons.

Like so many people, Canada, New Zealand and Sweden are looking better to me every day.

Would not be a good time to mention that Michael Dell is involved in canned hunting?

Eerie.. *X-files intro song*

It's interesting that if you watch the X-Files and Babylon 5 they cover exactly this sort of thing albeit in a roundabout way.

They talk about the "war on terror" these days but there's a very good part in the X-Files at the beginning of series 4 where an agent describes how they weren't at war so they called it a war anyway (referring to the cold war).

B5 series 2 has the rise of Black Watch looking out for "negative thoughts" and sedition.  This is for the good of everyone of course.

They might be called "Un-American" thoughts these days.

As Linchpins link show, the pics are ripped straight from an article at dansdata.com, dated March 2000. Even the dansdata article call the PIC a "programmable interrupt controller"..just to be anal, link explaining the name wikipedia.org

BTW, forgive my ignorance but what's canned hunting? Does Dell go out shooting baked beans or tuna?

It's Fake

I though of all the points mentioned in the above article when I looked at that page. Replacing anything broken on a NEW laptop with out sending it in for service or taking back for replacement, sound odd just there. Then it just gets more improbable from that point.

What everyone should be worried about is not the goverment getting your computer to spy on you, but your ISP. Much more feasable, and stable storage not paid for by the goverment.
