A600 memory expansion options?

Appart from a turboboard the only other way would be a 1,2 or 4 MB PCMCIA RAM-Card.

Once upon a time I heard about an Apollo 630 reproduction.. never eventuated (sadly) though.

Once thing I wouldn't mind clarified - what PCMCIA cards are usable as RAM in an a600? There are several types of 4MB cards out there - linear flash, sram, cisco ones, etc - some are cheaper than others - do all work?

About that reproduction of the apollo card;

Why is it most people want this upgrade? I beleive it is for the fastram to play whdload games. Am I right?

I recall there is a hardware hack on aminet that allows fastram on the A500. The hack plugs into the cpu socket. Would it be easier to design a clip over the cpu expantion for the A600 that just adds 4MB of fastram like the hack does?

The startup costs will be lower since you may not need to go multilayer. You also will not need as many components.
With the expantion you'll have PCMCIA free for basic networking to transfer your games and such. Maybe more people will be interested in such an expantion since they will not need to pay big $$$ in advance.

Well the 030 and the ram expansion - I think the idea is to make the a600 a reasonably useable machine - rather than an a500 with a pcmcia port + hd.  

The Apollo 630 is notorious for being shabbily built and tricky to install - which is a bit of an unwelcome risk considering it's price.  It would be nice to have an alternative, even if it worked out to equal cost.

It's the form factor of the a600 which makes it so appealing and worth upgrading IMO.

Not to say that a killy clip type ram expansion wouldn't be welcome (if cheap enough) however.

I hear people saying that newton cards are useable as RAM - but most (Apple branded) cards which I have seen are Newton Linear Flash cards, which I suppose makes them inappropriate?  

If anyone knows which specific cards are suitable (i.e. perhaps the card which is currently being used) could they please post information about them?

Pity nobody ever made a 68060/Ram card for the A600. They run nice and cool. Of course, the 16-bit databus into the rest of the system would suck badly, but it never stopped A2000 cards from delivering some serious grunt ;-)

Apollo 630 would be great if the re-release were a redesigned model so small that would basically clip on like internal scan-doubler for A1200. Maybe that would not be a realistic design, however anything considerably smaller than the original design would be beneficial.

Such a small clip-on module is basically impossible to clip-off easily.

No, the card you posted from eBay will not work as memory.  You need an SRAM or PSRAM card.  They pop up on ebay periodicly, so keep checking.  Also, Software Hut (www.softhut.com) gets them every once in a while.

I have a 4M card and together with the Elbox 1M Chip RAM upgrade makes the A600 quite usable.

No there wasn't. The PCMCIA was never much talked about as much as it worked. It's not an option. Take the MB but you must be sure to see if it has clock. Very important in future work. You wont be able to have to clock correct on it without it. Every time you switch it off, there goes the clock.

I personally suggest the Apollo 030 card with max memory, a hard disc and the best modem.

Definitely. It fits nicely on my coffee table and plugs straight into my TV (bigger than ANY Amiga monitor ever made) without an A520 and allows me to play most (hence the need for more mem) of my fave Amy games from the comfort of the couch.
