Socket, eh?
On my 1200 board there's an empty placeholder for a PLCC socket/surface mount. AFAIK it was designed with a 68881 / 68882 coprocessor in mind but one was never shipped with any A1200. You couldn't stick an 030 there, but you might get away with one of the FPU's. It may be that design flaws prevented a motherboard FPU becoming a reality for the A1200.
As for the 030, if its a PLCC type it's likely to be a slow one (under 25 Mhz), so even if you could fit it somehow, I doub't you'd get much benefit. Clock for clock, the 020 and 030 are similar performers, except in a few rare cases where the 030's tiny datacache helps.
If you're a bit strapped for cash, just getting a fast ram expansion card for your A1200 will speed it up by upto 2 times. They usually come with sockets for FPU's so you could probably stick a 68882 in there.
