Sin City
« on: June 07, 2005, 06:38:37 PM »
I just saw it here in Camden Town (it has only been out here in London for a few days now).

Well...phew...what an opening scene. Very good soundtrack too, I'll be getting it just as soon as possible.

The film: I enjoyed immensely. I noticed a few people not getting into the whole black-and-white deal (colour splashes here and there) but I thought it worked very well for the film and possibly avoided a few censorship headaches too. I can't see some of those scenes going through unedited without the luminous white blood effect.

The way that the stories were told kind of reminded me of Pulp Fiction. There are three main plots and one sub-plot and some of them cross paths briefly. It's a very violent film, very dark, very gritty with not much foul language and nudity. Yet it deserves its 18 rating I can tell you.
Not for the faint-hearted. It is gruesome action all the way.
Excellent cast choice...my only complaint is that the stunning women working for Gail were not given more screen time: I could see potential in the character Dallas (played by Patricia Vonne) sexually abusing poor old Marv when he was tied up, for instance.
But anyway...great film if you can gel with the cinematography. The scenes with 'Kevin' were outstanding.

I unfortunately saw this movie with my ex girlfriend, and since she was bored to death and watched the movie pretty much just because I wanted to go and see it, the whole experience had a negative effect on me, so I didn't really have too good of a time watching it, however I hope to give it a second chance once it's out on DVD.

It's definitely the last time I go to the movies with a chick, to see anything other than a chick-flick...that's for sure!

:-)

Ja, Sin City is definitely not a movie you take a bird to see. It's for a group of guys or just you on your own. I honestly can't see many women enjoying it: it appeals directly to all that is male, violent, gritty and that which thrives on revenge.

Hum,
i watched it about a month ago...
< cheesy grin>

And i must say that i quite enjoyed it. (one time only though), the style and `over the top` cliché wasn’t quite my `cup of tea`...
;)
But preferable over `order 66`...

@ Blobzie

I'm surprised you enjoyed Sin City, but then again you are full of surprises  ;-)

As a matter of interest did you enjoy Saw? (that is out now on DVD for those who haven't seen it)

@X-ray:

'I shall now compose an ode...'

Sorry mate, couldn't resist. Anyway, Saw is already out on DVD? Dear lord. We are just about to see it on the silver screen! It is so vastly unfair that we have to wait for that long.
Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

@X ray
>>Saw
hum,
i got it on DVD,
it’s quite funny.

i just watched `kingdom of heaven` , and that is one that I’d recommend for blood and gore, (and it’s set in nice scenery)

@ Cymric

Ja, you can all blame it on Johncena and his Battleraps thread. Now you all have to put up with my occassional ramblings in rhyme. I am only guilty of three so far, but who knows...

The dude's rhyme's have no percision,
even with his X-ray vision.
He seems to be Blobrana's number one fan,
which could upset Wayne, thus a permanent ban.
There ain't no place for this perverted little freak,
And just like JohnChena, he's a very sad geek.

Aight!

Then I must be lucky for my chick loved it. And so did I.
