Exactly as the title reads. How do I know what I got by looking at the chip?

I have a 1200, so if I have 3.0 roms, do I need them, considering I'll be getting the Coldfire, and I guess it has a work around for that?

If you don't have a HD installed the bootscreen will tell you what rom you have, in workbench there's an about item in the menu... if it says 39.*** you have ROM3.0 if it sais 40.*** you have ROM3.1. Same above numbers are shown if you type version in a CLI.

I have no idea if the coldfire uppgrade you're talking about requier the latest ROM or not. Since it's still not available you need to contact the manufacturer if you need specific information. Concidering WB3.5/3.9 requier ROM3.1 and it being likely you want to uppgrade your workbench with the new hardware in hand, and considering the price of a ROM3.1 for an A1200 is as low as it is you better just get it over with and purchase those ROM's.

How do I know what I got by looking at the chip?

If it reads 39.106 on the chip it's 3.0.
If it reads 40.68 (or 40.xx) on the chip it's 3.1.

If the coldfire accelerator is the only reason for upgrading, I'd rather first see if the coldfire thingie ever appears at all.
