I miss when computing was simple

I have:
A1200HD (3.1 roms)(40meg) with an 8mb expanssion
A600HD (very dead)
CD32 with serial cable for the 1200.

[edit] and 2 windoze xp laptops, 1 windoze PC, 3 linux pc/servers and a modded xbox with xbox media centre running the entertainment room.

My old multisync monitor died long ago and i can't see anything on any other monitor i have.

I want to get back onto the amiga's whether i have to buy an amiga one or built my 1200 into a tower.

worst part is my 1993 disks (100s of them) are currupt   :-( or at least the important ones (workbench and tools disks)

Can someone give me a starting point?

Well there programs out there that can sometimes salvage the data off old disks. Of course if they are games, most Amiga games have been released as Freeware if not abandonware, so those are mostly all available from the net now a days.
If you want to take the shift from the 1200's kick ass Keyboard set up, to a tower, then you might as well make it worth you while and get this when it comes out:

Of course you have to be filthy rich, or a good saver, if not gifted on Ebay.

 In the end, I think you will be happy with what you got. Just compare the prices of this set up to a rare 1200 060 50MMhz, plus a Mediator Bus Board. You'll still be spending about the same, and only have a fraction of the features.

 As for tower, you can build your own (I'm working on finding blue prints for this as we speak.), or you can buy one like this, which I assume comes with a PC Keyboard and Mouse adaptor?

I would love one of those a1200 towers, but the postage to New Zealand would be nutz.

I wonder how many new zealanders are addicted to amiga like i am.... maybe we could get a bulk deal :-)

From what i can see, it would be cheaper to get a server height case (like the big thermaltake ones) and drill a few holes and figure out the cabling.

Looks like i have several weekends worth of electronics fun ahead of me.

The problem with my disks being currupt is that the ones that they are my workbench disks and my tools disks, although you are right, most of what i had (tools and games wise) is on aminet or some random abandonware portal, question of morality tho, the reason amiga's had health problems are because it was so easy to copy games and even tho the game creators aren't aupporting or even selling them any more, feels a bit odd..

I feel no shame. Video games alone did not make Amiga. It was the hardware and application software that did it.
 Of course if new quality games came out I'd buy them, but I  avoid paying for something that is old, un-supported, and is used and therefore not giving any money back to the main companies anyhow.

Computing is as simple or as difficult as you allow it to be.

Personally, I find AIAB+WinUAE on my little HTPC the easiest way to get a taste of Amiga now and then, a LOT easier then trying to set up a "modern" Amiga with the jumble of OS patches and low-production-run/low performance/high-cost expansion cards.

But, each to his own.
