One for TjLaZer. :-)
« on: June 01, 2005, 04:46:19 PM »
Amiga 4000T system on eBay. Looks to be in good condition, however untested. This always arises suspition that it may not work. I understand that not everyone has access to an Amiga monitor, however how hard it is to actually plug in a power cord and turn the system on? At least you could hear if the hard drive clicks or not, which would indicate that there's a good chance of the unit working. Is it possible that a 1000+ feedback seller of mostly computer hardware items wouldn't know this? :-)

Hi,

Most likely a PC chop shop.  Probably looked at the back and said "Where the @$!@$ is the VGA port?" and put it aside...

i don't think so.

Seen that he has listed even the "A3640 rev.3.1", i suppose that he alredy seen an Amiga before.

True enough; it is also possible the machine had some manifest information when the seller obtained it and may have no idea what a 3640 card is but assumes interested buyers will know what it is.

Yeah, it's probably crap and broken so the rest of you shouldn't even think of bidding on it...  8-)

Karlos

to point out that the A3640 is a rev 3.1, let me think that he knows that the 3.0 has problem.

Definately sounds like it.
"You are bidding on one Amiga A4000T computer, part number A4000T"
An Amigan wouldn't bother specifying part number A4000T.

"1 simm installed, I am not sure what size simm it is"
An Amigan would know that the chances are (99.99%) that this is a 4 MB simm. No A4000T's were ever sold with 1 MB fast ram...

"One floppy is installed"
An Amigan would specify whether it's a DD drive or HD drive, or perhaps the most likely Escom PC drive with the small adapter board.

Anyways, these beasts are tough, and since it comes with a coin cell battery (although, it is strangely enough soldered on, guess a socket would be too expensive), chances are it's working. The current price (100 USD) is worth the risk anyway, genuine A4000T's are rare.

Well, that's my thoughts about it, and don't worry, I won't bid on it, I already have one and I live in Norway...
For those of you in Europe, there is an A4000T on the German Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=8142&item=5195604377&rd=1
but this one is being sold by a collector, who is selling his spare A4000T due to lack of space. It even includes the original tower 'feet'.
Oh, and here are 8 drive rails http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=8154&item=5201875435&rd=1
You'll need these for mounting cdrom drives and such.

Happy bidding

@ X56

Take note of the pics in the link to the German sale in PaSha's post: those are the same tower stands that I got with my A4KT when I bought it in Croydon in 1996. I think you were unlucky, not getting the stands, the L-bracket for the AV module and the bezel door label.

I would love that one!  but am a bit leary on bidding on non tested goods.  I have two A600's here that are dead and paid well over $100 for them each on fleaBay.  Was told they work but sold as is.  (no banana on this one) :(
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

Hi TJ,

Did you end up getting that A600 from the sun computers here in Canada?

Hey x56h34,

I sent a message along to the seller...

Dear phatbaby77,

You asked:
"Hi, Could you please plug this machine in and hit the power switch - I would like to know whether the power light on the front comes on, and that the hard drive spins up and sounds allright before bidding. $350 is too much of a gamble as you can appreciate! Thanks! -G"

Hello, I have done as you asked and the green power light does come on steady. The drive spins up and then another light flickers as what it sounds like the hard drive being accessed. Hope this helps.

Cool!  Let the bidding begin!  If you look at his other items, there's nothing Amiga related at all...

-G
