Just give me one good reason...
« on: June 01, 2005, 12:12:58 PM »
...why the Student Loans Company and all their affiliated collection agencies should not have their staff relocated or shot, their systems used in EMP warfare experiments and their premesis pulverised down to the bedrock and then used to gravel peoples' driveways.

:-x

These people are, without doubt, the most unprofessional useless b*stards I have ever had the misfortune of ever dealing with. They could not find their own arses with both hands, maps and outside specialist help. If they did, they'd still fail to extract their thumbs or differentiate them from their elbows!

I have just had to pay a third party collection agency arrears on an account that should have been deferred. Not only did they fail to inform me of the failure to defer the account, no warning was issued of the transferral.

Neither could they account for the loss of contact details, claiming they could not call me (even though they had my email address the whole time too) to let me know, despite the fact they contacted me in January by phone.

Nobody seemed to have the slightest clue WTF is going on, nobody seems to have the authority to check records to find out and I am down a hefty immediate sum I can ill afford at this time, waiting for these useless retards to try to ascertain how it has come to this.

Obviously you've never worked for the New Deal Department of Groundwork Manchester.

The couldn't find their own arses if they had both their own hands and 2 other people helping. Their IT system was a joke! They had some finance manager guy in charge of networking and IT, who I once saw take 8 days to fit a new HD because he couldn't figure what was wrong. He had it set for Master instead of Slave.

Their filing system was non-existant, mainly because one of the Admin Assistants used to spend most of the day putting right the mistakes the Head Administrator made and the other one sat at her desk all day talking to her Boyfriend on the phone.

I won't recount my sad tale regarding the SLC...

But suffice to say I wholehartedly agree. It would have been nice of them to at the very least inform me that they were canceling my loan... let alone give me a reason... And then it would have been nice to recieve a written appology when after several months of chasing and investigating on my part, I discovered that THEY had entered my National Insurance number incorrectly on thier system.

But no... all I get was; "oh one of the admins, must have entered it wrong".

:-(

See? Another perfect example of the inexcusably bad 'service' provided by this 'company'.

Having paid the collection company's ransom note I now have to wait until friday to find out what the hell went wrong as it won't likely be until then that the SLC has control of the account again.

Having explained my position and opinions in no uncertian terms, the collection company itself is contacting the SLC to find out how I was handed over to their 'care' without so much as a smoke signal to let me know.

Funny to think that debt collectors even have standards

That's government departments and QUANGOs for you.

This year we had fun with the Inland Revenue, who are offering a £250 incentive for small businesses to file their payroll returns online from the 6th April....

...And on the morning of the 6th we discovered that the IR gateway was "experiencing technical difficulties" which necessitated a major rehash of our payroll software in order to file the returns from the 10th when the gateway stopped having "technical difficulties".

(Note to Inland Revenue:  Test the website before five million people all click on "send")

In the meantime, helplines have been permanantly engaged, IR staff have been buggering off home at 16:30 hours while I've been working beyond 9pm on several occasions.

Grrrrrr!

A large part of the problem is that they are staffed by people (most likely temps) who dont give a {bleep}, generally if they see something wrong they'll brush it under the carpet and hope someone else finds it because it means less work for them. You can bet that SOMEONE knew what was happening they just couldnt be arsed doing their job properly.

I currently work in a similar environment doing data entry the difference being i care about what happens to other people (If i {bleep} up it could mean that some child abuser gets a job a child care ofc it also means that BT get fined £50k so i guess i have incentive to {bleep} up to).

I don't actually know what the SLC is, but I assume its something similar to our HECS (Higher Education Contributions Scheme), the only difference I imagine exists is that ours is controlled by the Federal Government and yours is a private enterprise?

What your experiencing sounds very familiar to what has happened to our social security system that was recently privatised and remaned CentreLink, or CentreStink as it is commonly known. I know of people who have had their pensions cancelled for no fault of their own and the monkeys you talk to on the phone have no power to re-instate them, you have to wait a week for it to move up the chain, so you basically go without.

Hopefully, our glorious Government never sells out on HECS and I never have to experience what you are describing, as I've still got quite a bit to pay off. Good luck.

No objections here, can I lead the firing sqaud? Or should we just mount a .50cal heavy machine gun on a humvee and let rip? :-D

Why shoot them?  Surely it would be more entertaining to tattoo "I am a kiddie fiddler" on their forehead then let them loose in a rough council estate? ;-)

I'm sure we could think of many entertaining ways in which to solve this problem, however, there is just so many of them, we need a solution that is quick and allows us to work en mass.

I dunno 'bout where you live, but scaffolding and graffiti do not make a residential area look "upmarket" round here! ;-)
