Yes, a PCMCIA ethernet card, a TCP/IP stack like Miami, Genesis or AmiTCP, and Samba if you want to connect to windows pc's.

Be careful with the pcmcia cards you buy, ethernet 100 usually doesn't work...
Download the driver (and the compatibility list from aminet:
driver and compatibility list (cnet.device)
There is a problem with the pcmcia slot of the 1200, it can be fixed using different solutios, the easiest is adding a capacitor but if you want to try the software fix it may work:

Does anyone know of a good UK supplier of Amiga ethernet cards? Would I get a better result by towering my A1200 and using a different type of expansion slot?? I know usb is available for the Amiga, would I better with a standard usb to ethernet adapter(if i can get the drivers of course)

AFAIK there are no drivers for USB to ethernet (could be wrong, though. VGR usually has all the latest news on USB drivers, so keep an eye on there).

The best method of networking A1200s is to get a Mediator, and use Voodoo and Realtek 8139 PCI cards (you have to have the voodoo to use the network card due to Elbox's DMA system using Voodoo RAM).

The only other viable solution really is to use standard PCMCIA ethernet cards (there are drivers for cnet or NE2000 compatible ones on aminet); although if your A1200 hasn't had the CC_RESET fix, you may have to remove and re-insert the network card after every reboot (which could get a bit annoying .

Eyetech supply  this# which were well reviewed at the time.
You could always get a Mediator1200SX, but the cost of a towercase/mediator/NIC might put you off.

There is a driver for some USB Ethernet cards with the Thylacine USB card but as that is Zorro only it probably doesn't help the original poster much.

There are now software patches on Aminet which negate the need for a hardware CC_Reset fix if you use a PCMCIA card. IIRC you need CardReset.lha and CardPatch.lha, both in util/boot on Aminet. Further details are in the lates cnet.device docs. One of my friends has an A1200 with a PCMCIA Ethernet cards and went from a hardware CC_Reset fix to using these software patches and they seem to work well.

If you can find a compatible PCMCIA card it is probably the cheapest way to go.

I remember a long time back, about 97-98 in one of my Amiga mags a project to build your own Amiga 1200 tower out of a standard AT/ATX case does anyone know where I can get a hard copy  of that project from?

Before I sold my A1200T, I had an ApNET PCMCIA Ethernet card in it.  I believe I got it from Software Hut.  Used it with cnet.device, Miami Deluxe, and a hardware PCMCIA reset fix from Power Computing.
