A3000 UX / A3000 ?

How can i see is my A3000 UX or normal A3000?
Can this be seen from the mainboard or is it the shape or the software?

I think it was supplied with a Tape drive and Amiga UNIX. I know that the AmiNIX or whatever its called wont run on 68030 cpus or something (There is a cpu issue with the faster ones) so maybe it has a slower CPU supplied?

The A3000UX was released with AT&T Unix V4, iirc.  The machine was a standard A3000 68030 m/b with early roms, the aforementioned scsi tape drive and an A2410 graphics board (for the Unix display).  There was also a version for the A2000 that used special boot roms on an A2630 68030 accelerator.  I once had both machines, having bought them off a guy who worked at the Univ. of Lowell (where they designed the A2410).

I remember that it required the MMU.  Perhaps it didn't run on an '040?  Has anyone here ran it on an '040/060 or just the '030???

It will not run on 040/060, only 020/030 with MMU.  At least AFAIK.

*edit* There's a guy who contacted me recently that got it installed on an A2000, so there's no special ROMs or anything necessary, again, AFAIK.

The video card and tape drive were optional also.  Besides the badge, the other difference was some came with a 3 button preggy mouse.

How can i make my A3000 use 3.1 rom (softkick), where do i have to copy the roms files.

Or is it the only way to buy them (rela ones)and replace the old ones?

You may find this topic helpful.  I assume that is what you were talking about anyway...

Short answer is that you pretty much need to buy the 3.1 ROMs, unless ye feel like a pirate, matey.

From what I remember, it only works on an 030.

The final version was compiled for the 030, and before CBM could lay off the remainder of the team, they quit.  

Development halted right there and never moved again.

But the Amiga may be the only personal computer that ever ran UNIX. (If not, then it ran the most advanced version ever released for a personal computer.)

Various versions of SVr4 were released for x86, and BSD is pretty definitely a Unix.

Very similar was A/UX, only for 68k Macs. I think Apple continued development for it up until around 1996/97.

http://www.applefritter.com/ui/aux/index.html has a little walkthrough. It ran on some of the 68020 to 68040 boxes from the late 80s/early 90s.
