My Amiga collection... up for grabs?
« on: May 21, 2005, 11:08:24 AM »
Hi, I've not been here long, some of you posted in response to my 'hello' post.  :)

Someone asked what was wrong with my Amigas, well, I don't know.  We had three Amigas together at Christmas a year and a half ago (my 2 and someone else's), and none of them were working properly.  Either the internal disk drives have broken slightly on all three or the disks have degraded, because things worked perfectly if you ran the stuff on the hard drives.  They loaded erratically from disk, though.  I wondered if they get a bit ill when they're not used for ages...

I honestly don't know if I have the time to fiddle with them, or even the space to have them in the same flat as me at the moment.  The stuff's all at my parents' house, and they would appreciate me moving it somewhere.  So, I was thinking, would anyone here like the stuff for free?  If you live near Southend in Essex that's where it is.  Otherwise we'd be travelling between Leicester and Essex so we could drop it off if you were between the two places.

The stuff's basically:
2 A1200's with hard drives and RAM upgrades
A CD-ROM drive
A million games (approximately)
An external disk drive

There's also an A500 with a definitely broken internal disk drive.  It has a RAM upgrade.  It's my Dad's in theory, but if someone wanted it he'd probably be glad to get rid of it.  More space in the loft!

I'd rather someone here who loved the things got their hands on them than they sit there being all unused forever...

And I'll still have my CD32, so I can still play cool games.  Hooray!  :D

There's usually people out there looking for A1200s, I'm sure you'll find a good home for 'em :-)

An A500 with a harddisk internally isn't very common, so no worries there either (heck, I'd be interested in this lot, but the wife'll kill me if I get any more computers!).

Don't forget, there's always Amiga Forever, it's a great start on emulating Amigas on the PC - it can even play CD32 games :-)

As would I - on the off chance you want to ship one (to Australia).. I'd love a 1200 (just the computer, no power supply - to keep postage costs down).

So yeah - long shot but thought I'd give it a go.

Wow, I wonder how much it'd cost to post an A1200 to Australia?!  I'd be willing to think about it if you pay postage!

I was in Southend last weekend!! :-(

My kid sis lives in South Ockendon, I might be able to get her to pick up the stuff for me.  I'll give her a bell and ask, as my parents are visiting her (and her new baby) next weekend and will be able to bring it back up north.

About a year ago I shipped a Roctec Chromakey from the UK to Australia and from memory that cost around £35(appox AU$80) via airmail. So I dare say that shipping could easily cost around AU$100. Still cheap compared to what A1200's are selling for downunder. When shipping, it would be a good idea to physically remove the HDD and RAM card, put them in separate anti-static bags and wrap them in foam.

I am guessing he means it has a broken internal FLOPPY disk drive. They all have them.
